A: Nish, thank you for your interest in our Westclox Sunrise Alarm Clock with Dimmable Nightlight & Restful Sunset Simulator Lamp. (MODEL #71051) Our Sunrise Alarm Clock cannot operate on batteries exclusively. However, this clock does provide a battery backup feature for uninterrupted use during power outages (2 AAA batteries required, not included) which is a great asset to have if ever warranted. Nish, the battery backup feature will automatically continue to operate the clock and maintain both the time and the alarm time during this period. PLEASE NOTE: when the clock runs on the battery backup the clock may lose or gain a few minutes or an hour. This may require resetting the time again to restore precise timekeeping. Q: what is the brightest lighting setting/ the temperature lighting?

A: It seems to be a nice 2700k and our boys love it for helping them to fall asleep. It starts off brighter and dims to off over the course of 30minutes. It does not start too bright. Hope this helps!
