It is my first soldering iron, easy to use

Once it heats up this iron is ready to solder like a race horse.

Uncomfortable to use, works but not great.

It gets hot enough to solder. But I ended up purchasing a different one after a couple projects. The power cable is pretty thick and not very malleable. I found it bothersome to use.

I personally did not like this soldering iron. I used it for all of 20 minutes before pieces of the tip started to snap off.

    Good… didn’t come with the solder-head I needed. It’s an additional purchase.

Solid iron for the price, used for wiring

Very good quality, heats up fast and has a lot of of potential for stain glass or heavy gauge wire soldering, large PCB trace laying, wood burning etc

    Yes, I recommend this product.

Q: With ref to your Weller Pro soldering iron. Can we use it for stained glass work? Love the Led feature but the wattage seems low for St Glass soldering.

Q: Can the Weller Professional Electric Soldering Iron work for soldering wires for electronic items? I would like to get this to solder some things to get them to work again, so iwas hoping this would solder the wires into place.

Q: Curious, would this soldering iron be suitable for "welding" styrene plastic? (ie, plastic car models)

    1 Answer
    • A: Thanks for reaching out. This product wouldn't be suitable for welding styrene plastic. The Weller 9400PKS 140W/100W Soldering Gun (Product #058-6324) does offer a plastic soldering tip, but it is designed for smoothing plastic rather than welding it.

Q: This is about your AD for a Weller soldering Iron. What kind of thoughtless advertising is this when you do not state the Wattage?

    1 Answer
    • A: Hey Justin, This soldering iron draws 18 Watts of power but provides the performance equivalence to a 60 Watt iron. Thanks!

Q: will it work on xbox or ps3 gaming controllers to fix or edit current problems with wires

    1 Answer
    • A: The basic answer is yes, the tool is capable of soldering general wiring connections internal to these electronic controllers but may be a little underpowered if working on connections to the PC Board within these units. The reason for this issue is that the X-Box and PS3 gaming consoles have very large multi-layer PC Boards with large Copper Ground Planes (layers of Copper to dissipate heat) internal to the boards which acts a large heat sink to a soldering iron. Since you did not explain what type of wiring connections you may be working on (Connectors, Switches or PC Board connections), we feel that we have to caution that it is dependent on the type of connection internal to the system. If you are an experienced electronic tech, we feel certain that you will understand the difference and should possibly be looking at a high end product such as the WD1002. If you are really “techy” and / or plan on servicing these units, maybe even consider the WX1010 with the touch screen display! The high powered, temperature controlled soldering systems are designed to handle most any of these soldering challenges. We know that this is a lot of information but questions like this require a little more detailed response than when working on a simple electronic device or wiring harness.

Q: I bought 2 of those, one for the job, one for home, I really appreciate them...I 'd like to know why you don't carry the tips for them. 58-6311-8 soldering iron the Weller part is #WPS10

    1 Answer
    • A: There are two replacement tip options for this iron (Weller # WPS18MP). The WPS10 is a conical shape tip identical to the one that came with the iron. The WPS11 is a chisel shapes tip. Below is a line to this iron. http://www.apexhandtools.com/brands/weller/index.cfm?search_criteria=1

Q: Is this iron supposed to smoke when plugged in for the first time right out of the package? Mine does.

    1 Answer
    • A: Yes there will be a small amount of smoke emitted from the heated tip when plugged in for the first time.
