The Weiser SmartKey Re-Keying Kit is the perfect choice when needing to rekey your SmartKey lockset. The kit comes with 4 pre-cut replacement “everyday” keys and 2 pre-cut “temporary” keys. Use the “everday” keys to quickly rekey your SmarKey locks to a new key. Use the “temporary” keys to rekey a specific lock for temporary access for a housekeeper, guests, or contractor. The Re-Key kit gives you the ability to customize your security and puts you in control of who has access to your home. The kit also has an upgraded SmartKey learn tool and full colour tri-fold showing the easy 3 steps to rekey. Ideal for landlords when tenants move out, as you can easily rekey all the property’s Kwikset SmartKey locks in a matter of minutes. No more having to replace the lockset, just replace the key.

frustrating when it fails.

The rekey tool came with a piece of plastic on the front of it which prevented me from fully inserting it into the lock and engaging the rekey mechanism, but did not prevent me from removing my key. So somehow the lock forgot both the new and old key, preventing me from unlocking my door altogether. Found a video on YouTube with instructions on how to reset the lock by taking the whole thing apart, getting grease all over my hands, but I managed to do it. Only after it also failed in my backdoor did I notice that the rekey tool had a piece of plastic preventing it from being fully inserted. Once I removed the plastic, I was able to rekey the back door. To be clear, the plastic looked like it should have been there, so I wouldn't be surprised if this was fairly common. So if it works, then this is smooth and relatively painless, but if you get manufacturer's defects, then buckle up.

No, I do not recommend this product.
