Bought these for storage. Can't allow the contents to touch the sides or lid otherwise the lid won't snap into place.

A: Do you mean while they are empty? Yes, they can be stacked within themselves while nothing is in them. Once filled, they have the tiny wheels on the bottom and would not stack very well filled up with stuff. That said, I am sure depending upon what you or how you fill them, would make the difference. They are decent containers but not the sturdiest I have ever had, so what I mean it, if filled with books, something solid and heavy, they would distort their shape a bit more compared to filling with clothes or stuffed toys.
