Doesn’t kill rats

I tried for 6 weeks. I placed a camera and saw the rats eating the bait, but they just kept coming. It did not kill the rats.

To get the best results, it is suggested to keep fresh bait available for at least 10 days or until you no longer see activity. Be sure to get rid of other food sources and make sure all household food items and pet foods are properly sealed and stored. This station must be placed where rodent activity has been seen. It will only kill the rodent that eats the bait, it will not take bait back to their nests.

Q: Hi, we bought Tomcat Rat Killer stations, put them 2 m apart from each other, close to the concrete foundation... It's been a few weeks, and no rat bated any poison block inside stations. Why it could be? what is wrong? thanks

A: Bait station must be placed where they see mice activity. Move the stations to another location. If mice are getting their food from another source, they may not take the bait.

Q: How much bait must one adult rat eat for it to be lethal? The rats have been eating the bait very quickly, especially with winter arriving and other food sources being limited. So it is very effective. I’d like to estimate my total kill count :)

A: I calculate 1.5 mg of diphacinone per 30 gram block. Based on lethal dose of 0.3 mg to 7 mg/kg, one 30 gram block should be able to kill between 5 and 0.21 kg of rats. Best case if a rat weighs 250 grams, then 20 rats per block. Worst case, a little more than one block would be required to kill one 250 gram rat, and more than one block would be required to kill larger rats. For example, worst case 5 blocks would be required to kill a 1 kg rat. Assuming a rat will eat more than the lethal dose before it expires, then the numbers above are optimistic...so should say less than 20 smaller rats per block is best case, and more than 5 blocks per rat would be the worst case for larger rats.

Q: Where can I buy refills? It seems no one carries just the bait.Why do I have to buy a whole new bait station when the one I have is good but I need more bait.

A: Can refill the Tomcat Rat Killer Refillable Bait Station only with the baits included and sold with the bait station. The PMRA requires that baits be sold in or with a bait station. In other words, you cannot buy the refills/bait blocks without a bait station.
