Helps the wood to stand up to the weather and last longer without having to replace often

used this sealer on a number of projects and pieces around the house, decking, a picnic table, some outdoor shelves by the barn and others. The water beads right up on the wood. I use a pool broom with a squeegee to push the water off and can do whatever I need to do and no worries about the wood rotting. Apply it once a year or so and the wood sands up to the weather.

Beautiful results

The project was approximately 300 ft of 6ft fence which is 3600 sq. ft. The Water Seal was applied using a brush only. It went on easily without making a mess. I enjoyed doing the work and amazed how the product made the fence look new again. I had many compliments on the project. The best thing is that I know it’s protected for the next few years.

Protection

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We protected our timber retaining wall this summer. This great product will improve its condition and extend the life of it.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Q: What do I use to apply this product to a large deck? Will a simple paint roller do?

  • A: Canadian tire sells a 7" pad that has a handle that can also be attached to a broom stick. Saves the back!

Q: Will this work on untreated wood just as well? I have a chicken coop and outdoor srand I'd like to protect.

  • A: Thank you for taking the time to ask a question. To determine if the surface is sealed or can be sealed, perform a "Water Test". The water test is accomplished by dripping some water on the surface of the substrate. If the water penetrates into the surface and makes it noticeably darker, then it is ready for a coat of Thompsons. If the water beads up on the surface, then hold off on the application (currently the substrate is sealed and does not require an additional layer of sealer). If you have any questions, please contact us directly at 1-800-367-6297 or info@cbgbrandreview.com. Sincerely, R.C., Digital Care Team

Q: Can a small amount of penetrating oil based stain be added to Tompson 's clear wood sealer to give it a slight tint?

  • A: You would want to how the ingredients act when mixed together. It would be best to ask the manufacturer.

Q: Is this a good product to apply to a wood deck that is regularly exposed to chlorine in the summer months?

  • A: I would strongly asking the manufacturer of Thompson WaterSeal that question as there are many chemical variables that could come into the equation.

Q: want something that is clear and best protection for my one year old deck (pressure treated). Tossed between the waterproofer plus clear wood protector and the exterior multi-surface waterproofer clear, what is the difference and what would you recommend?

  • A: if you were putting it on pressure treated lumber (brown) then it really shouldn't turn to grey would it? Sounds like maybe the UV one would be better for a one year old pressure treated deck?

Q: Can I apply the sealer under 16 degrees Celsius?

2 Answers
  • A: Instructions say to apply above 16 celcius. Other sealers say to apply above 10 celcius so you may be ok above 10 celcius but I don’t know. Maybe do a small area and see what results are after 24 hours

Q: The USA site Thompsonwaterseal.com says to apply when 50 degrees Fahrenheit or more for 48 hours. The container I bought says 16 degrees Celsius or higher. 50 degrees Fahrenheit is 10 degrees Celsius. Why the difference in temperature for application? Wh.

  • A: Thank you for your question. If you apply the Thompson's products in lower temperatures it can be a slower dry time and may not set up correctly. Regards, Linda @ Thompson's Waterseal Customer Support

Q: Hi What is the difference between this product and the Thompson's Original Water Seal? I am looking for protection that seals in that wet look on my deck. I don't see any difference at first except the price? Thank you

  • A: It does keep a deeper look( wet look longer) but you should redo each year to keep a deck or fence lasting twice asclong. The mildew resistant element helps jeep away the green buildup challenge in shady areas.

Q: We’ve sanded an old deck down to the bare pressure treated wood can this product be applied now? Any other prep required we want the colour of the wood to be clear what it is now.

  • A: I have used Thompson water seal with amazing results. My deck and fence were getting on in years but after applying Thompson I now have a beautiful honey coloured deck and fence. I did no other prep other than power washing. so I would say if you are down to the original wood, no other prep is required. The Thompson seal that I used was the green label.
