Q: The Swordfish unit specifies that it’s rated UVC. But the lamp is UVA 36WLR which is used for curing paints & epoxies (as in dental) UVC lamps 100 to 280nm are used for germicidal disinfection applications. Why do yo not supply this unit with a UVC lamp?

Q: What is the wattage of this lamp? What is the wattage of this lamp? Can it be hooked up in a way that it is on only when the furnace/AC is on?

A: The unit is on all the time. To have it come on and turn off each time the AC or furnace does would burn the bulb out very quickly. The wattage of the bulb is 36 watts.

A: No. It is just for installation in your ductwork. Swordfish has created a room unit though that can be used for anyone that does not have forced air heating or is in an apartment/condo or for a room of a person with allergies or breathing issues. You should be able to order the unit from your local CTC store! UVA1800RM It is about 149.99 i believe!

Q: Will it burn the furnace filter if installed 1 foot away from the furnace filter(Garrison Merv 8)?

A: If you use a plastic furnace filter, you will want to install it in the ducting preferably not within direct "sight" of the filter. The UV can cause the plastic or paper to break down prematurely. If you are not able to install it further away, cover the plastice frame with ducting tape(the silver/metal tape). That will prevent this issue in a life-time filter.

A: if it's installed after the filter as it should be over the A/C condenser, it would have NO affect on filter. Even so, I don't see how it would cause anymore debris for the filter to deal with either.

Q: Email sent to manufacturer asking if this will rot the canvas (flexible) duct connection between furnace ducting and house ducting. NO ANSWER PROVIDED. So I will assume it will accelerate and cause damage to this canvas connection. Anyone know more?

The Swordfish UV system will be bathing this canvas connector in UV. Will it accelerate the aging of the connector? Please let me know. Answer: When installing the swordfish, you would need to keep 3 feet from the furnace filter, humidistat, or any materials not made of metal or is not UV resistant.
