I’ve been using this hose as a drain off of my dog bath tub since Feb 2025. It lays on the floor behind the tub and doesn’t move. Yesterday (Oct 10, 2025), I noticed a big puddle of dirty water on the floor … pulled everything out, and found that the middle of the hose had 3 HUGE CRACKS in it. It’s probably ruined my floor, which was just installed, along with new subfloor in January 2025. I am NOT HAPPY 🤬

Q: My sump pump pipe outside of the house has an outer diameter 48 mm, so it is probably 1-1/2" inside diameter. Does this hose fitting fit into the 1-1/2" ID pipe?

A: 48 mm is 1.9", so you are probably correct. The sump hoses come in both 1 1/4" and 1 1/2" varieties. Not sure which one this was (i bought both). Either way, it shouldn't be too difficult to get the appropriate hose connectors to make it fit both sizes if need be.

Q: Can this be used outside all year round to direct water run off from sump overflow along side exterior of house? Winters can hit -40°C

A: Not unless it was fully insulated. THis pipe is very prone to icing up due to the coil format and thin walls. I have used it pumping lake water to flood an ice rink in the winter and had to take it inside to thaw out after been full of water but off after only a few minutes. Look at installing a weeping tile instead and bury it at least a foot underground.

Q: is this suitable for exterior use in winter- e.g. to apply water on a river ice rink?

A: I used mine to flood the rink. I've used it down to maybe -12C. It would not pump much through a garden hose, so I got 2 lengths of 1 1/2" hose. This pumped almost too much water, but worked great.

A: Yes, you can connect hoses together using a BARB type 1 ½” union for a longer length but keep in mind that the longer is the total length, the higher is the friction loss.

A: This drain kit is designed to drain water from a sump pump on an open flow without any restriction so the pressure is not rated since the application is near 0 PSI. However, 15 PSI have to be consider as the maximum pressure it can hold.
