Good pads...weak fasteners

The pads are great, and I use them a lot. I use them with heavy duty ratchet straps instead of the attached 'clips' provided. I need the ladder to stay on the roof, thanks.

Great solution

Great, reasonable cost solution to flat roof vehicles (mine is a Chevy Bolt) without roof rails. It's a bit weird to have tie-down straps cross over inside the vehicle, but if your roof is high enough you can soon ignore them. My spouse did an 800km (500 mi) round trip with our 13ft kayak without a problem. You might want to get pair(s) of the hood tie-down straps to secure the front & stern - if it's a boat you're transporting. I can see using the Stanley "racks" for ladders and lumber too.

Light and Durable

A bit pricey but does the job. Used for the first time last week to support our heavy 16.5' canoe on our SUV that has no rails. The long straps provided held tight for the 3 hour trip. I would recommend twisting the two straps a few times where they run outside the vehicle to prevent them from vibrating which would cause unnecessary noise. The kit does not come with a strap for the front end or rear. I used two extra ratchet straps for that. Which I'm sure were needed to support the canoe securely.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Great idea, but bulges the roof

Unless you are loading them with something extremely light and not pulling the straps to tight, it pushes the roof of the car down

Voyage Facile

A plus the roof rack price was reduced. The on line video shows a individual putting the paddle board on the car roof and throwing the straps over and driving out of frame, i am not as confident that the 56 lbs canoe would remain on board traveling the 400 series of roads. With the bow and stern secured with ropes passing 16 wheels traveling over the speed limit buffed the stanley roof rack for most of the 210 kms and there was only minimal shift of the load. The roof rack material is sturdy and a smooth. The roof rake has made four trips no incidents to report, quick to install and easily to remove.

Questions

Q: Would this work on a 2019 Ford Fusion to transport a kayak ?

  • A: I took this home and it turned out to be wider than the roof of my car. You need to buy the roof rack and see if it will fit on the roof of your car. Check out the installation video on YouTube before you buy it. I didnt like the way the rack is fastened to the card.

Q: Could you use this for a canoe on a 2016 civic?  Is this system safe to use on a car with a moon roof?

  • A: This rack system is garbage. It may be good to tie down a ladder but that's about it. I wouldn't recommend it for a canoe.

Q: will this fit 2016 KIA Optimum or what rack you sell will fit

1 Answer
  • A: Based on my experience it should fit. The straps that go through the top of the door openings may restrict headroom in the cabin but they can be positioned to minimize this problem. I use this rack on a 2014 Kia Rondo to carry a kayak.

Q: I have a 3-door 2004 Toyota echo. Will the rack be compatible with my car?

1 Answer
  • A: Your car is 66” wide while the roof rack is a little smaller - Stanley Pads are 34” long. Due to your small hood – The pads will have to be placed close to each other. So be careful with not overloading or putting big items on the pads.

Q: Is there a maximum driving speed with this roof rack?

1 Answer
  • A: Each vehicle has its own rooftop dimensions, specs, design and weight capacity ratings for speed, as set by the OEM (Original Equipment manufacturer/car company) Please consult your vehicle owner’s manual for details to the specifics of your vehicle when using the rooftop carrier. Safe speed should be determined by the operator as defined in the vehicle’s OEM booklet usually found in the glove compartment of the vehicle. Caution should be taken when your cargo sits well above the roofline of your vehicle where wind and elements can take a stronger effect. (Examples for speed adjustment/safety: A pair of skis that run with the car top and let air travel through, versus a small brown box with things inside, that sits higher up and does not let any air pass through while travelling.

Q: Is that a ski rack that fits this universal rock rack kit?

1 Answer
  • A: Stanley rooftop kit – mounts through the car windows and inner roof to hold the pads in place. For skis, you would have to strap the skis down on the pads applying a large amount of pressure – like this image shows lumber being transported. Skis have a smooth, glossy and slippery finish on the top panels of the skis – so bracing the skis tightly to the roof pads is key.
