Product Details

The SkeeterVac SV3100 is a cordless unit that creates its own power to energize the suction fan by converting propane to electricity using a catalytic converter. The byproduct of the propane is CO2 once ran through the catalytic converter. When the fan powers up the exhaust from the fan blows out the unit, CO2 and an attractant called Octenol used in the Bait Block along with heat and moisture is expelled from the SV3100. Mosquitoes are drawn to the CO2, Octenol, moisture and heat thinking it is a mammal. Some mosquitoes will get stuck on the sticky TacTrap which is the black and white portion of the trap surrounding the SV3000 engine. Mosquito research has shown that mosquitoes are attracted to dark colors. The design of the TacTrap with the white and black contrast tends to make mosquitoes fly toward the wider portions of the TacTrap which is where the suction from the fan pulls the mosquitoes into the permanent net where they will dehydrate and die.

  • SkeeterVac SV-3100C Mosquito Exterminator provides one acre coverage for attracting, trapping and killing biting insects such as mosquitoes, black flies, sand flies, no-see-ums, and biting midges

  • Cordless, turn on gas at cylinder (sold separately), push multi-spark electronic ignitor, and SkeeterVac starts operating quietly and odour-free

  • 31,000 cc/hr CO2 output for maximum attraction

  • Includes a cartridge of Octenol which acts as an additional attractant over and above CO2, FineTune allows you to adjust the Octenol release levels to match species in your area

  • Directional sticky trap binds mosquitoes as they land on it and uses an exclusive contrast pattern to help direct flight paths into the vacuum trap

  • 5-colour LED 'motion' lighting system helps increase attraction levels and works on difficult species like the Asian Tiger mosquito

  • Wave Trap feature ensures minimal loss in vacuum power, as the trap fills up, air flows unobstructed straight down

  • No-tool assembly, simply snap the post to the base and head, dial in the Octenol level, and hand-tighten the regulator to the cylinder (sold separately)

  • Includes security stakes and vinyl cylinder cover

  • Compatible with SkeeterVac® Octenol Attractant Cartridge (SKU #0593722)

Great mosquito killer. Small improvements needed

This does a great job of attracting mosquitoes and killing them. I have had this for 2 months now and have killed hundreds or thousands of mosquitoes. It is impossible to count them in the basket. The 20lb tank lasts 3 weeks +. There is no electricity needed so you can put it in the bush and not need to worry about an extension cord. The sticky trap is just an extra sticky fly paper that wraps around, it seems to catch more moths than anything. I am not sure if it is worth replacing. I put in the scented cartridge but really have no way of determining how well it works. I am not sure about the purpose of the LED lights. They seem more of a gimmick to me than anything else. There is no way to lock this unit to anything to prevent it from being stolen. The LEDs are like a beacon for the thieves. Overall it is a great unit. I would add some way to lock it to a tree, and get rid of the flashing lights.

Worth every penny!

This is our second unit. The first one lasted almost 5 years before we wore it out. We live in a highly forested, damp area and this is the ONLY thing that allows us to enjoy our backyard from May through November. Highly recommend it after trying EVERYTHING else.

Doesn’t do anything

Have had this for 3 years, running at the lake with it placed right beside some still water. After running this for a couple weeks at the lake on the highest bait opening I caught maybe 5 mosquitoes. Completely useless

No, I do not recommend this product.

No more bugs!

This was a major purchase this year but well worth the money. Previous years we would have to load up on bug spray to enjoy our time at the cabin. We would easily spend $500 a season on the stuff. I’ve had this for about 6 weeks now and it is a game changer. You actually notice when you walk outside the 1 acre boundary just how bad the bugs were! We have it about 200 feet from 2 cabins and no one complains about mosquitos or the flies anymore. I’ve only went through 1 20lb. Propane tank so far and a couple of the sticky traps. This thing should pay for itself in 2 years by removing the need for bug spray. 11/10, hands down a must have for Northwestern Ontario outdoor life! A longterm INVESTMENT, not just another purchase!

Q: I bought the Skeetervac SV30 and put it together according to the instructions. I have a lot of bugs around but in 4 days of running 24/7 I've killed more bugs checking it than the trap. Can anyone recommend what to try? Is there a way to increase vacuum?

Q: what powers the fan and light

  • A: Propane, no cords required. Most likely uses a Seebeck generator (thermal electric generator) to power the electronic portions.

Q: Does it suck in bees as well? We have some hives and I wouldn't want to risk losing my bees

  • A: It barely sucks in mosquitos. Bees may get stuck on the outside though Year two of using this and it is not working as expected. Waste of propane as it is not keeping mosquitos at bay...

Q: How do you effectively clean out the vacuum mesh basket trap without setting free the live mosquitoes that are buzzing on top of the pile of dead ones

  • A: I use the plastic cover supplied trapping the mosquitoes inside, then I hit the screen with a small spray of raid or like product. They will die even if they are released. I then rinse the screen with water.

Q: Has anyone purchased this as a replacement for the unreliable SV-15 model? Manufacturer told me this model has serviceable parts and a better track record than my unreliable SV-15. So my option is to buy a model that is twice as expensive as the first one I bought that didn't last more than a couple of years?

  • A: My brother has an SV-15 and my father and I have models like this. Mine is a SV-35 and his is the SV-31 and he regrets not spending the extra money. The effectiveness of the models with fans, traps and lights seems to be much improved over the models which simply burn the propane.

Q: Why has Canadian Tire decided to no longer carry the Tactrap and Lure needed to keep the SkeeterVac operating?

  • A: An old question, but figured I'd answer anyway... My Canadian Tire still carries the TacTrap, and they have alternatives to the skeererVac brand of lure.

Q: Gauge doesn't move - Troubleshooting? After pressing the ignitor and hearing the "poof", the gauge does not move. Is there any troubleshooting that can be done??? Any help is greatly appreciated!

  • A: Mine hardly moves, been working for 3 seasons, going on the 4th. Ignore it. Press and hold the pilot for a few minutes, you will hear it poof, then gurgle as it lights, then go quiet, then the fan and lights start up. If it goes out during this, restart the process, may take 2-3 times.

Q: how long does it take to clear an area approximately 20 metres in diameter?

2 Answers
  • A: As with any thing involving nature it depends on your area and the weather. These have to be kept running for the entire season as skeeters will continue to hatch and migrate from outside your area. It seems to take 2-3 weeks to really get a good start. Once the big early hatches are under control everything just falls into place. I believe I have mine set up in one of the worst places ever and once it clears the area it is awesome 2-3 weeks seems to be the time in my area and conditions. Good luck
