problem with product

Nice price. However the contents were all fused together in large clumps of fertilizer, that had to be broken up with a hammer! Tried using my fist but to no avail.

Any moisture that gets in the will make the granules clump together. Were there any holes or damage to the package that allowed moisture to enter the bag? If granules cannot be readily broken apart then it should not be used because it cannot be properly applied.

Q: I bought Scotts Turf Builder Pro lawn food yesterday at Canadian Tire in Lindsay. Why is this product grey in colour? This colour makes application difficult in terms of actually "seeing" it being dispersed by a rotary spreader. Anyone find this?

Q: Should I avoid applying this product to a newly seeded area or does it matter? I seeded a small section with a topdressing approximately 2 weeks ago and I'm starting to get some nice new growth, but will this fertilizer stall further growth? Thanks!

A: No, the Scotts Wintercare Pro Lawn Food will not burn the lawn as long as it is applied as according to the directions. This product can be applied at this time of year as long as the ground is not frozen.

A: Scotts Wintercare is usually applied as the last feeding of the lawn in October or November. However, you can use Wintercare anytime of the year as long as the grass is green.

A: All of Scotts Turf Builder lawn fertilizers utilize the patented All-in-One Particle technology. Slow release coated fertilizers rely primarily on moisture to break down and deliver nutrients to the soil whereas Turf Builder’s controlled release behavior breaks down by microbial activity within the soil and is unaffected by variances in moisture. The result is consistent feeding over 6-8 weeks. Also, unlike most other fertilizers, every particle contains a balanced amount of nutrients for improved delivery to the lawn. And, because this technology results in smaller particles vs. coated fertilizers, it delivers more particles per square metre to provide more even coverage and contains no fillers like sand or gravel.
