Q: How come I don’t have to unlock the knob myself.. it unlocks by just turning the knob from inside ..Is that normal ? Also once outside it locked me out of the house .. thankfully someone was home at the time ? What can I do to prevent that ?

A: Hello there! There's a common phrase in the door industry where "egress must always be an option." The F51A knob was designed so that, in an emergency, all you have to do is turn the knob and leave the house so you are not fumbling with a small thumb turn. Unfortunately, the only way to be locked out of the house with this is if you left the home while the interior thumb turn was locked. (When turning the knob from the inside, it is unlocking the door, so it shouldn't lock behind you). If this problem persists, please send photos of the product, a brief explanation, and your home address -- this would be covered under warranty. Canada.CustomerService@Allegion.com
