Check the product inside before you buy

Bought product to put on my garage floor. Opened the box and the material inside pouch B was hard. I didn't know the difference so proceeded to follow instructions and mixed the product in the pouch. Product did not mix well and came out in clumps. Even tried mixing in bucket with drill paint mix, no luck. Couldn't use it and a complete waste. Also wasted a paint roller and materials getting ready to do my floor. I'm sure the product is great, but this seemed to be a bad product\batch. If you buy open and check the pouch in the box, it should not be hard as a rock. I will be returning it but not sure if they will accept since it was opened but a complete waste of time money and effort on this go.

I think I had a bad batch, or it was old. I'm not sure what the shelf life is.

I went to mix the bags and noticed lumps in the small bag , I needed it for about 1/2 hr, though the lumps were gone ,couldn't feel anything . Mixed the 2 pouches together . when I rolled the floor, there was still small lumps .Now, it seems were the lumps where raised higher when you walk on them they bust and make dirty spots all over the floor

Questions

Q: HI can this be used on a wooden garage floor.?

3 Answers
  • A: Hi Poppie, Great question! Unfortunately, our Epoxy Shield coatings are not suitable for application to wood surfaces. Epoxy coatings cure very stiff and rigid and do not allow for any flexibility. A wood surface is going to expand and contract and will be quite flexible, and the epoxy will not be able to flex with the wood causing it will crack and chip off. We hope this new information is helpful.

Q: Hi, I applied this product 8 years ago and had great results. There has been some wear due to parking my car. Can I clean reapply a second coat of the same product on top? Or is there a different product anyone can recommend?

3 Answers
  • A: Hi Christopher, You can apply another coat of our Epoxyshield Garage Floor Coating kit overtop your older application. You have two options for prepping. A primer can be used first. Wire brush first to remove any loose or peeling paint. Sweep away any dust and clean entire floor with a cleaner and degreaser. Sand any bare concrete with 60-80 grit and rinse and thoroughly dry before priming. Allow the primer to dry for a minimum 6 hours, but no more than 48 hours to ensure proper adhesion to the top coat. If you choose no primer; Wire brush first to remove any loose or peeling paint. Sweep away any dust and clean entire floor with a cleaner and degreaser. Once dry, scuff sand whole surface with 60 grit sandpaper to abrade remaining paint. Rinse and thoroughly dry before top coating.

Q: It says you don’t need to use an etching product with this...is that right?

  • A: Hi Steen, Etching is required after cleaning the floor with a cleaner & degreaser. This will provide maximum adhesion to our Epoxyshield Garage Floor Coating kit.

Q: What type of Paint roller is best fro application?

2 Answers
  • A: I don’t think there is a “best” roller for application.  I used a standard roller with a 48” shaft the same as I would use for coating the driveway.  It worked great!

Q: My Floor is very pitted in certain areas, should I use a self leveling concrete to get rid of the pitting before I apply the epoxy?

2 Answers
  • A: Pitted concrete can be treated with a paintable concrete levelling compound. It is important that the material used be fully cured before the Epoxy Shield Garage Floor Coating is applied.

Q: is it OK,safe fro cement basement floor?

2 Answers
  • A: I would say yes; just make sure that there is adequate ventillation. Probably better for your basement floor since it will never see salt or a vehicle. I found this product to be quite odour-free.

Q: Can this be installed in sections? Can I do half the garage then when everything is dried and set, move my stuff to the finished side and do the unfinished side?

2 Answers
  • A: If you don't mind waiting a week, I would say OK. There really shouldn't be much weight on the floor for about a week to ensure that the paint doesn't lift off with the objects that you'll be putting on it.

Q: Hello. How many squaree feet does this product cover? Does the floor have to be prepped prior to using it? Thanks.

  • A: Covers 1 car garage.. and u have little left over... Not enough for 2 car garage !! I bought 2 and good thing I did. This made the garage look amazing.. Prep.. It includes a saline cleaner but that just gets rid of winter salt.. if ur floor has not been cleaned at all then I suggest a pressure washer with detergent.. thats what I did.
