    Never Arrived

Order status was changed to "delivered"/"completed" the next day, a week before it was scheduled to arrive (which was last week, now). The supposed courier's tracking number doesn't show any package was ever sent (just a label created). I have not received my item or seen any sign it was ever nearby, and I have yet to be refunded for this incomprehensible blunder.

    good for cast iron cookers

We have a propane stove and this works perfect. Our electric waffle iron crapped out and we wanted to get away from the teflon type coatings. If you know how to use cast, you will love this. If you don't know how to use cast, don't buy it. learn how to cook using cast iron first. Im buying a second one as you can easily manage keeping two cooking at once. I would describe the craftsmanship as just "OK" but it produces crispy crunchy waffles. note, it requires seasoning.

The cast iron waffle pan we've been looking for.

Great unit. Bought this to try to reduce/elminate electrical appliances, and get cookware that will last forever. It meets our needs, although not sure that we would use it for camping, but it could be on a camping stove, probably not a fire. Make sure the unit gets all of the factory wax burned off and go through the proper seasoning procedure typical for cast iron pans. After that, the unit is good to go with waffles being pumped out quickly. We are potentially considering a second unit because we like to make big batches and freeze them, perhaps if on sale. You will take a couple of goes to get your routine down because everyones' batter, preference for crisp, and stove is different, just make note of it. We use it on a gas stove.

Not perfect but pretty darned good

I'd been looking at these forever but my local store doesn't carry them (boo). I finally got to a bigger store to look at one. It's smaller than I thought but I'd had pretty good experiences with Rome campfire cast iron previously so I grabbed one. Firstly, it's unseasoned but covered in a wax to prevent rusting while on the shelf. This wax is hard to get off, I washed mine in hot soapy water several times and rinsed with boiling water, could not get it wax-free. Finally I burned the remainder off in my toaster over at a high heat; this was smoky so if you have a bbq do it there. This got me to raw grey cast iron. I spend 30 minutes touching up the casting flaws and removing excess flashing with a grinding wheel and rotary wire brush, it's pretty crudely finished of the shelf (this was just my personal preference as I despise handling hot sharp heavy cookware lol). 3 rounds of seasoning in my convection toaster oven at 450 deg F got me to a decent bronze finish. Just made 4 of the best waffles I've ever had. 1) this will not work great on an induction burner, the handle will lay flat on the stove and it will be very hard to pick up. I used a single hotplate, worked well. 2) the handle(s) are pretty short, I heard Rome makes one with longer SS wire handles, but this is what CT carries. 3) It will need work off the shelf for best handling and performance, the casting is crude and the finishing worse. 4) somewhat obviously, it only makes one (decently sized) waffle at a time. If you're feeding a family, you are going to be cooking for a while. 5) this item is subject to all the requirements of any cast iron cookery, seasoning, greasing, washing & storing needs to be done appropriately to avoid rusting and/or sticking. If you don't know what this means, start with a 10" skillet and learn the basics before trying to cook with this. Take care of it and your grandkids will be making delicious waffles with it.

    Yes, I recommend this product.

Q: Can this be used on an electric stove top? Also will it work inside the oven? Thanks

    1 Answer
    • A: I have only used it on a ceramic top electric stove.  It works great but if you have a ceramic top, just be careful how you lift it and reset it down so you don't scratch the oven top. It should work in the oven but I haven't tried it.  The handles get quite hot even on top of the stove so I'm not sure if the oven would be a great idea.  Maybe you wouldn't have to flip it though in the oven, which would be great.
