Q: Please recommend a peat-free potting mix. I want a mix with no peat moss or sphagnum moss. I'm having a hard time finding ingredient lists on your site. Peat harvest is harmful to our ecosystems. Thanks.

A: All of our Pro-Mix soils contains fertilizers. I’m not sure it’s a good idea for snails. You may wish to some Golfgreen soil without fertilizer.

A: The PRO MIX Moisture mix is comprised of Canadian Sphagnum peat moss, peat humus, coir (coconut fibre), perlite, limestone, organic fertilizer, mycorrhizae. PRO MIX HP contains Canadian Sphagnum peat moss, perlite, dolomitic and calcitic limestone (ph adjuster) wetting agent and mycorrhizae. PRO MIX HP is best when extra drainage is required. It is ideal for water-sensitive crops, root cuttings, and or low light growing conditions.

Q: Does this mix have any white bits in it? From fertilizer or vermiculite type moisture retention? It’s for a tortoise table and they eat the little white bits.

A: All moisture soils and potting soils will have either vermiculite or perilite in them. These help to aerate the soil. If you do not want that you should use a garden soil or one of the Golfgreen Organic soils now available at Canadian Tire
