Works ok, but has many flaws. Not worth the price

Purchased a few years back. Within a year I had grease leaking out at seals, the drip tray just burns and causes grease fires, the hopper doesn't feed properly and I was getting startup failures. I managed to fix the start failures and learn to work around the other issues. After about 5 hours of run time, it just heats up and can't keep a constant temp. It now doesn't keep temp at all. Pretty disappointed overall. Customer service was also pretty bad. First and last Vermont Castings product I will buy.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Great pellet grill, cooks and smokes well

After 2wks this oellet grill (my first) has been great. It holds temp well, ignites easy, and had no issues running in the temp ranges it shows. I ran it up to 500F easily to do the burn in and seasoning. It's on hour 4 of my first pork shoulder smoke and has been running 225F steadily even though its 3C outside. The only issue I've found is every couple hours I need to shuffle the pellets in the hopper a bit so they don't "tunnel". Tunneling is when there's pellets in the hopper but the auger runs out of them because they all stayed at the sides of the hopper and the middle made a "sinkhole". Not sure if this is common on all pellet grills, or is an issue with my pellets or outdoor temperature/humidity, or what. It's not a huge deal though. I could be wrong but i think this model is essentially nearly identical to thr Pit Boss Pro Series, but rebranded as VC and maybe 1 or 2 small changes. Either way can't wait for the pulled pork tonight!

Yes, I recommend this product.

Q: Hello How long should it typically take to get to start/smoke temperature. I'm finding it takes over 25 mins to get to even 225 degrees. now I have to remove all the grates and insret pellets directly into the heat rod just to ignite and build a fire?

3 Answers
  • A: Yes, it takes about 20-25min depending of the outside temp and the wind.

Q: can the smoker be used in the winter months

3 Answers
  • A: Yes, the Vermont Castings Pellet Grill is designed for use 12 months a year. During colder months more pellets will be consumed in order to maintain the internal temperature. You can reduce pellet consumption by insulating your pellet grill using a Pellet Blanket. The Candian Tire product number for the Pellet Blanket that fits this grill is 185-0214-2
