The fit was fairly good for my 12000 btu unit. I sort of rolled the excess along each edge to make the fit a bit tighter, but all in all I think it will be helpful in minimizing drafts.

The plastic was not plastic but a thin piece of packing foam that is usually used to prevent scratches and ripped apart when touched .. the padded cover did not hold firmly onto the air conditioner as elastic was not strong or tight enough to hold it

Q: is it fire retardant? It is placed about 1" from the top of my heating baseboard..

A: I bought this for my Mom's apartment and it helped a lot with drafts. I did not read the packaging to see about the fire retardant quality because it is not near a heat source in the apartment. You would need to ask the manufacturer. I did not keep the packaging.
