IT will break if it freezes with water in it

Cannot handle a freeze thaw cycle. If there is ANY water in this barrel when it freezes, it will crack. I have had two crack on me now. The only way to prevent is to have this barrel upside down during the months where it may freeze, and then put it in place for the summer season. In Calgary where we get a lot of chinooks and wild swings in the weather, this thing is has to be uninstalled, and covered in a way to not allow any water in it. Even snow landing on it and melting is enough to cause it break when freezing temps happen. You would expect better for +$100

Failed after second summer.

Bought 3 and all three have cracks in the base after second summer of use. Stored in heated shed over the winter.
Spigot failed on two.

Q: Is there a Spigot Replacement? I bought 2 of these barrels last year and yes they do leak a little ... I leave a water can under them to catch the drip. Bought one this year and the spigot does not leak ... Can I buy just the spigots?

A: We bought this barrel 4 summers ago. By the next spring the spigot was leaking and garbage. We purchased a new online from the Big A place and caulked the outside. Not only was it for under $20 but it was superior to what came with barrel

A: The diameter of the hose is about 6 and a half inches. At the end where you hook it to the rain barrel, it is 5 and a half inches in diameter.

Q: How do you get the water out from the bottom if the spigot is about 10 - 12 inches from the bottom?

A: The barrel does not need to be emptied fully when actively in use because if the barrel is completely empty it will be blown away by the wind. However, before the winter arrives the water needs to be fully drained by turning the barrel upside down.
