Q: I plan to use this on a wall that has been primed (latex). Should I sand the surface at all before applying this for a skim coat? If yes, how much sanding would you recommend?

A: Before applying a skim coat, the area that has been primed needs to be sanded down to remove the primer. After sanding, that area needs cleared of all dust or debris on the wall. A skim coat can then be applied. Please note, if the area that has been sanded is not properly cleaned/cleared of dust/debris, there could be problems when applying the skim coat. Attached is a document on skim coating.

Q: Is this a joint compound for new drywall or just for small repairs?

A: This can be used to embed drywall tape, fill and finish gypsum panel joints, corner beads, trims and fasteners. It can also be used for skim-coating over dry and non-glossy surfaces.
