I have used foodsaver for years but when I needed a new one I thought I would upgrade to this one and it’s nothing but junk the sealing bar is about 4 inches high and then you need to push the sealing bar on both ends meaning you have to have 3 hands or tie yourself into a pretzel or have someone to help you. If this isn’t bad enough every time it seals a bag it resets itself back to dry mode. Then the third time I went to use it only sucked about half the air out I could get more air out of a ziplock bag then this. So save yourself money and a headache buy something else.

This is my second FM5200.My last one is over 15yrs.old and still works but not as it should. I also have a handheld that works very well.Foodsaver seems to be the way to go for me anyway.

This model, a disappointment.

The FM5200 2-1 was a disappointment for me. I've been using FoodSaver machines for over 10 years.
The machine required more manual dexterity operate. The sealing chamber is about 5 inches off the surface of the table, requiring you to hold the bag in place, while triggering the machine with a switch just under the sealing chamber.
I was also worried that the plastic pieces in both the chamber and the cutter bar were weak points in my opinion.
A better choice would be one of their traditional machines that sit flat, and have less moving plastic parts.
As far as functionality, it did vacuum and seal similar to the other models I have purchased in the past.

Q: I need a specific answer PLEASE. Is this machine capable of vacuuming moist meat (game and fish)? I mean without pre freezing as this would defeat the purpose of the machine. Please be honest. Thank you

A: FoodSaver® appliances are designed with a few unique features to help seal juicy/moist foods. The patented removable drip tray catches any overflow liquid and is dishwasher-safe for easy clean up. Some of our appliances also have a Moist/Dry setting that changes the seal level for type of food - moist or dry. Liquids can be drawn up by the vacuum process and liquids between the layers of the bag can have a cooling effect on the heat seal. Moist mode extends the seal time to compensate for liquid and create a secure, reliable and air-tight seal. (Hint: When vacuum sealing very moist foods such as stew, try letting the bag hang lower than the unit, by placing it on an open top kitchen drawer. Hit the seal button once you see liquids start to move up the bag. When sealing large volumes of liquid, it is normal to have some air bubbles remain in the bag.) However, due to the delicate structure of some fish, we recommend pre-freezing for 2 hours so the fish retains its moisture, juices, and form.

Q: It seems like there is a lot of waste of plastic when sealing your food products. Do you need to have such a big amount of plastic or was it for video purposes only?

A: Thank you for asking! There should be about 3 inches or so between the end of the food and the edge of the bag, this gives it room to vacuum and seal. Have a great day!
