seems useless but maybe I don't know how to use

I bought this light 3 weeks ago, put it in a lamp pointed down at my 2 pots of chives, put it on a timer so it is on 9 hours a day, 7 days a week. Zero change or new growth going on with those plants. Either the light is useless or I just don't know how to use this grow light properly.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Questions

Q: Does the light give off red and blue light or just 1 color, also where can I get more information on the light as Canadian tire reps in this form say they do not have the answers to previous questions?

  • A: Sorry for the delay.  It looks like one colour but as far as plants are concerning it has a spectrum. I have lights that have individual blue and red lights but this is just a single bulb but that bulb, placed centrally, kept a large geranium and bougainvillea plus 3 or 4 smaller plants in leaf and flower all winter.

Q: what size grow area will this bulb cover with the buld 5 inch from the plant

3 Answers
  • A: It would depend on the height of the plant.  Generally speaking the area would be within the ring of light illuminated by the bulb.

  • A: What type of plant? Fine herbs, flowers, fruit tree, equatorials... In which stage of growth is it? Seedling, vegetative, budding, flowering. It depends on the type of plant as well as its stage of growth...

Q: How far away from plants should it be and how long under lights should it be

  • A: When I’m trying to grow from seed, I find putting the light 10-14” away is good. I put the light in a timer so the light is on for about 14 hours and off for 10. As the seedlings grow, move the light further away & decrease time. If the seedlings get too leggy, it means they are either too crowded in their pots or not getting enough light.

Q: What’s the PPFD value analysis of this grow light? There is no such information on the box.

2 Answers
  • A: I have no idea about the ppfd of the bulb. I won't buy it again as it only lasted for a month. I do use the A19 bulb for my plants for the winter and they seed to be doing alright. If you want to grow seedlings I would go for a better grow light.

Q: Is there a email address I can email the manufacture directly for specific bulb information

  • A: You can try NOMA.com.  The product model on the box is 0820YK but then under that is YGA08C12-8.5W-Q.  Good luck!

Q: What is the difference between this one and the A19 light bulb? The lumens are the same and the wattage is pretty close.

2 Answers
  • A: The spectrum is limited on a household bulb.  For plants which have differing needs you need a full spectrum.
