Block heater cord

Just what we needed in this cold weather. The lighted end is great. Shows the cord is powered.

The strength and the light.

Why did you quit making the 25 foot cords? The 16 foot can be too short in some cases.

Questions

Q: Would this cord work safely for a mini window AC to extend it to my wall outlet?

3 Answers
  • A: Canadian Tire also sells an extension cord specifically for use with AC, rated at 15A: https://www.canadiantire.ca/en/pdp/noma-air-conditioning-power-extension-cord-0522419p.html Check the specs on your AC and if you are drawing less than the rated amperage of your chosen extension cord, you should be fine, as long as you’re running it just a few (5-15) feet.  However I wouldn’t attempt to run a high watt motor on a longer (50’ - 100’) cord.  Overload protection is provided by the circuit breaker upstream of the wall receptacle, and it’s not uncommon for the AC motor to have an overload protection circuit breaker (check specs in the AC manual).

Q: Does the light come on only to indicate the power source works or does it also tell you if the car plug is effective and power is being transmitted? It is lighting up orange when I plug it into the house and having little bursts of white light when I plug it into the car but that doesnt last. Only the orange light stays

Q: Why does the light turn off after a minute or two? When I plug it in, the light is on the the cord...After plugging it into the blc heater cable, the light stays on for about a minute or two then shuts off...Is this supposed to happen? When unplugged from the block, the light turns back on...

  • A: The light should stay on if there is power in the outlet. Even if the cord is OK it can turn on and off sometimes if you are plugged into a smart outlet (this is an outlet that turns on and off to save power and the amount of time it is on each hour is based on the outside temperature). A lot of parking lots will have smart outlets to save on power. I would suggest testing the outlet that you are plugging the extension cord into with another electrical device to confirm if it is the outlet that is turning on and off or if the cord is defective.

Q: The lights turn on when I plug it into a power source but turns off when I plug it into my car. Does this mean the extension cord is working even though the light turns off when I plug it into my car?

1 Answer
  • A: The light inside the connector fitting should not turn off when the cord is in use. Please have a qualified technician check your block heater as there could be an electrical fault causing the light to turn off when a device is connected. Please discontinue use until you have researched this further.
