Q: Ignition key ON or OFF? Do I need to turn on the ignition key when using this cable on my 12V accessory port?

  • A: If your vehicle's 12V outlet is always powered then, no, your ignition does not need to be left ON. If your vehicle's 12V outlet is only powered when the ignition key in ON then, yes, you will need to leave the key ON. As an alternative, NOCO now offers for purchase an OBDII charging lead (GC012). It allows you to charge your battery through you OBDII plug, which does not require you to leave the key/accessory ON.

Q: Can this be used to put power back into car? 1998 Boxster with dead battery, can’t get hood open.

  • A: Hello Sadiesue There is no part number referenced here and this description could be applied to a few different items. Theoretically, you could plug a charger in thru the OBDII port or cigarette port to charge the battery if the voltage is high enough in the battery to be recognized. Thank you,
