No good in Canada
On line specs say it is good for -40c, but the literature in the box says not to use below 0c .
This is useless in Canada. There is no place in Canada that does not have temperatures below freezing.
I am returning it.
No, I do not recommend this product.

Battery Isolator - 90A
I am using mine to separate my solar charged batteries because one was poor and was sucking a bit of charge from the other. This Isolator has helped which prevents damaging my good battery which now carries a higher charge.
Yes, I recommend this product.

Q: Wiring Instructions
What is the proper way to connect the 90A battery isolator (part# 11-1813-4) to a 2012 Dodge Ram 3500 6.7L diesel?

A: Your truck probably has a 220 amp alternator. You want to match the Isolator capability with alt. For example, 90A Isolator is a good match for the 70A alt. in my Honda Civic.

Q: This product not intended for a stator charge nor one with an alt. w voltage regulator? Is it recommended for any vehicles younger than 20 yrs old?
Another question...I have a diesel utv with a 60 amp alternator which has a voltage regulator, will it fry?
Want to run accessories on second battery, won't I need a relay or a switch to change from primary to secondary battery?

1 Answer
A: This product is not recommended for a stator charging system. This is a diode type isolator (3-stud) but no auxiliary. It is intended for alternators that do not have an internal voltage regulator. Yes a switch would be needed if you want to run the accessories from your choice of the two batteries that are isolated. An installation guide can be e-mailed to you by contacting 1-877-619-6321.

Q: What is a battery isolator, and what is its function?
1 Answer
A: A battery isolator divides DC current from a source (usually an alternator) into multiple branches allowing you to charge, for example, a starter battery and an auxiliary battery at the same time. Also, it prevents current from flowing from one battery to the other so that your starter battery doesn’t end up drained.

Q: Can you add more then one battery per "bank"?
I have two starting batteries and plan to have two additional house batteries in my boat for a total of four batteries, could I wire this Isolator in using two batteries per bank? If not could one buy two isolators and install them in parallell?
1 Answer
A: If the two house batteries are for same Aux. Equipment (for same load) and the two starting batteries are for the same Aux. Equipment (for same load) you can use one isolator. If the two house or starting batteries are for different equipment separately (for different loads), you should use two isolators.

Q: how to chose from the 90A or 120A version of this product ?
1 Answer
A: You choose based on the size (amps) of your alternator. If your alternator is capable of putting out more than 90 amps, go with the bigger isolator.

Q: Can this run from cigarette lighter?
Can I connect this via cigarette lighter or must it go directly to battery?
Does it need to be fused?
Will it let battery charge will being used?
Will it prevent depleting the main battery when I am using it and the car is off?

1 Answer
A: I would suggest some sort of professional installation just to be safe. This unit connects two batteries and charges from a single source. Your car's engine charges one battery. If you get this unit, you would be able to install a second battery and it will be charged off the same circuit. When you turn off the engine, the main battery will be electronically disconnected and you will be using the second battery as power source (useful for audio systems and other components that you may want to run until the battery is depleted). When you need to start the vehicle, it then automatically reconnects to the main battery which is still fully charged. Care must be exercised when installing products like these. You would need really thick wires (at least the same size as you existing battery cables - or about as thick as your pinky finger).
It is always safe to have a fused connection coming from one terminal of the isolator going to the main battery as well as another fused connection from the third terminal of the isolator going to the secondary battery.
Neither battery will be charging when the vehicle is off. With the engine running, both batteries are charged.
And yes, the main battery will continue to be isolated and fully charged when the engine is off.
Last caution, in installing a secondary battery, make sure that it is in the engine bay. If you need to install a second battety inside the car (such as in the trunk) you will need a suitable battery box, clamps and a breather hose to vent the gases from the second battery. Never install a battery inside the trunk without a box or a vent - the fumes are quite harmful
