Good for limited slip?

This oil is made by Irving Oil for the Motomaster brand. While it isn't stated on the packaging that it is suitable for limited slip differentials, if you look at the specs for Irving's 75w- 90 synthetic gear oil it states that it is suitable for limited slip. I believe it is the same oil, just repackaged for Motomaster, similar to what they do with Shell Rotella. I took a chance and used it to change the oil in the limited slip rear axle in my Dodge 2500 with no issues. No popping or unusual noises while turning corners as one would have without the limited slip additive. It would be nice if Motomaster would add this to the product description.

Q: I have a 2008 impreza wrx h4 2.5l turbo and i need to do front diff with the tranny (5speed) and my rear diff is motomaster actually any good for a car that is tuned and has a bigger turbo on it . or should i get the more expensive stuff ?

  • A: You need to make sure that the oil your manual asks for is equivalent to the motomasteroil. I have a strong belive that all oils are the same and just packaged differently. This gear oil I've used in side by sides that are totally abused and still hold up. But a general rule I go by is if you have to ask it's probably not the right stuff, so spend another $30-$50 for piece of mind and get exactly what Subaru is asking for. Hopefully this answeres your question.
