    Motormaster Marine Gear Oil

I've been using this lower unit gear oil for years. Good value. Recently the packaging has changed, and the thread is no longer compatible with the screw-on hand pumps. I have kept the older taller Motormaster "Formula" bottles that are compatible with the hand pumps. The supplier should change back to the bottles that accept the hand pump.

    Outboard gear lube

Well its the same oil I have used for 30 plus yrs but they have changed the container to a std liter oil container which has a different opening size, larger. Now the std pump you use to fill the outboard doesnt thread on the container. The new pumps on the shelf are the older style and dont fit. Just not as user friendly.

    Marine gear case oil

Marine gear case oil. Bottle does not accept hand pump on threads so it makes for a messy process. Doesn’t come with the spout tip either. Is not fully labelled for standards. But it works.

Container not compatible with Universal Pump

As others have noted, this container is not compatible with the Motomaster branded Universal Pump which is very disappointing. CT needs to maintain better QC on these products.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Q: What is the shelf life of this gear oil

    2 Answers
    • A: Having worked for Canadian Tire all my career in automotive I can safely say that the shelf life is pretty much till you use it up. Kept sealed and free of dirt it will last forever

Q: Is the nozzle on this bottle designed to pump the oil directly into the stern drive lower end or is an external pump still required?

    2 Answers
    • A: I use the pump. Much easier and will not make a mess.

Q: Is this the same as Motomaster Formula 1 Marine gear oil? I bought the Formula 1 in 2022, but don't see it for sale any more. I still have 1 liter from last year of Formula 1, can I mix it with this Motomaster regular?

    1 Answer
    • A: Hello Timbo, The Marine Gear formulation has changed, since we do not know the exact chemistry in the older formulation, we would advise not to mix the two formulations. However this is your call, both formulations should be a mineral based product and should be compatible.

    • A: This will work fine where a GL-5 80W-90 is called for. Some ATVs call for a wet brake gear lube. It is not designed for them.

Q: Is this a type c oil? Is this the replacement for P/N 28-1743-2 Type C Marine gear oil?

    1 Answer
    • A: 028-1700 is not a type C marine gear oil and not a replacement for 0281743. We currently do not have a type C marine gear oil within our inventory but we are working to bring one into the assortment for next spring.
