1st time user here and was really pleased with it

Generally it worked great once I got use to it. It prefers room temperature at least to cure. I did have exact same ratios of filler to hardener ( used a scale ) and sometimes it cured too quickly and one I had to scrape off the panel as it didn't cure at all. Mind you I was trying to do some body work outside in the fall so we had some fluctuation in temperatures. Setting the filler inside between applications helped. I found it a lot easier to use, shape and sand than Bondo. Making a mold with just some coroplast along and behind a curve in a fender worked great! Coroplast peeled right off and made a seemless look to where no part of a fender existed before. I'm confident in its durability.

It's ok, but expensive

The quality is ok, sands fine. On the cheaper side, definitely not a high end filler. But it is really expensive for what it is. Because of the price I don't think I can recommend.

Q: Re Mastercraft Fiberglass - Reinforced Body filler. Once mixture has been mixed and set for 4-5 minutesat 24C-27C, at what outside temperature can it be applied?

1 Answer
  • A: The ideal temperature for use of polyester body filler is 21 to 27°C. Cure time is greatly impacted by working at lower temperatures and a recommended minimum room temperature of 10°C should be followed. However, for small areas, conditioning the body filler at 20+ °C prior to mixing and use of localized heating near the patch area may help. Applying heat to the patch area after application and initial cure may be necessary to effect a full cure.

Q: The instructions stated to mix the Hardener with the Filler until a uniform colour is achieved, then to wait 5+ mins before applying the product. Is this correct? Ive never seen or heard of anyone doing that. What is the correct % of hardener?

1 Answer
  • A: Mix it and use it. The longer you wait the less tile you have to use it, before it starts to harden

Q: Why is the hardener almost the same colour as the filler? Impossible to tell when it is thoroughly mixed.

Anonymous5 years ago
1 Answer
  • A: The fiberglass repair kits use a liquid hardener (no color) to cure the polyester resin. Color is never added to the “methyl ethyl ketone peroxide” liquid hardener because of stability concerns.
