Inadequate

I bought this in the spring as it was on sale and the reviews seemed to paint it as good value for the money. I was looking for one to leave in my Hyundai as it has intermittant constant draw issues in the winter. Starts fine after left overnight most days but randomly battery goes slightly flat. I put it in my boat as a JIC thing and used it once to fire up the (900cc) 50 hp Yamaha when I left lights on too long . Started it great. My Hyundai decided to play dead the other day, battery showed 11.5 volts . I hooked this up, followed the instructions NOTHING not even a click. I have a competitors unit hooked it up and car fired up right away. I decided to try it on my old truck that's been parked a few months in the heated garage. made sure unit fully charged. Again nothing at all, this truck starts with not much power . I've in a pinch started it with a lawn tractor battery. Pretty disappointed overall , I will keep it and next summer put it on the boat as a JIC. It does work well powering a small fan that plugs into the USB. Last word, buy a higher capacity unit than this one or risk being disappointed.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Good attempt but lacks power.

Works but is a bit cumbersome to use, as overwrite button must be pressed before it can be used. Takes a while to charge fully and depending on the size of the engine might be good for 3 cranks before battery going to low.

Q: Once it's done charging how long can it stay charging for

  • A: It sat in the trunk unused and untouched for 3 years. I jump started a car this morning and it still has 75% remaining.

  • A: I would have to say no. The device is not designed for continuous duty & no specifications on your downrigger are given.

Q: Can I use this to power my trolling motor, how many CA does it have so I can compare. It would be lighter for in my canoe.

  • A: Hi Paul, this is a battery jump starter, and as such it is built to help boost a weak battery by sending a large current for a brief moment directly to the battery. Its battery is not designed to sustain large current output for an extended period of time. It is only designed for devices that draw small current from its USB ports.

Q: Out of curiosity all the negative reviews, did you all read and follow instructions in manual, there's more good reviews then bad ones,so I'm not really sure if I should buy this product yet...

  • A: Further to the response from the OurProductManager above, I have also picked up from some comments all over that people think they can use these units as a quick charger. It is not a charger! I think a better descriptive word would be a "battery assistance unit". i.e. These units only assist the flat battery to get the engine started.

Q: Will it boost a 5.4 L V8?

3 Answers
  • A: Answer Part 2: (I'm still on the same battery & truck as in my other answer and this experience was only 2 weeks later than my previous one) For the past 3 or 4 days I've neglected charging my weak battery in an attempt to replicate the previous conditions where I need to use the booster. Yesterday in the late afternoon I stopped the truck for 3 hours. (F-150 5.4L V8) The temp was -11 deg C. After sitting for 3 hours I went to start it and it would not turn over. I tried again and it wouldn't do anything. I connected the 750A Boost pack, counted to 30 and the truck started just fine. Late last night I got home and decided to see if it would work in the morning. So I did NOT plug in the truck. After sitting 7.5 hours overnight at -14 deg C, the engine turned over once and then quit. I connected the booster pack and counted to 30 and tried starting. I got a single "zrp"... it turned over about half of one revolution of the engine. I left the booster attached for 5 minutes and tried again and got the exact same result. I disconnected and reconnected the booster, making sure each time that those little clips on the booster pack had the best connection and good contact with the battery clamps and let it sit another 5 minutes. Same thing... a single "zrp" and then nothing. So I got my eliminator smart battery charger and put in on instead. It indicated that the battery had 12.0 volts and was at 40%. I set it to the 75amp charge/boost setting and waited 5 minutes. The truck started up very well. Finally, (though a bit late) I was able to drive to work! So my final verdict on this booster is still unsure. Twice it worked when the truck had sat only about 2-3 hours, but then when the truck sat overnight, the booster didn't help at all. Remember I have a weak battery, but I did have 12.0 volts and 40% remaining. I'd say that this would not be a reliable booster for a 5.4L engine in below freezing conditions.

Q: Can use it to boost AGM batteries (absorbent glass mat). I think AGM is still lead acid but can i use this?

2 Answers
  • A: You are correct AGM is a lead acid technology that uses a minimal amount of liquid acid. It is best to not discarge the battery below 50% of its capacity. I believe it would be okay to use theis unit to boost a discharged battery. I would use it accordingto the published instructions.
