Q: VW TDi specs required 22241-1. Will this product work on TDi since it only ISO certified for 22241? What is the different between 22241 & 22241-1?

2 Answers
  • A: The Canadian Tire Team is correct. It seems vehicles manufacturers specify requiring 22241-1 (which is a portion of 22241), whereas DEF manufacturers label their product with 22241.

  • A: I use it in my 2015 3.0 EcoDiesel, no computer errors. Meets the Dodge requirement specs. API certified and meets ISO 22241 specifications From the manual -- MOPAR® Diesel Exhaust Fluid (API Certified) (DEF) or equivalent that has been API Certified to the ISO 22241 standard. Use of fluids not API Certified to ISO 22241 may result in system damage.

Q: Where is the expiry date listed on this product?

2 Answers
  • A: I could not find an expiry date listed on this product. The practical reason for this is it probably is not that critical. My original Mercedes-Benz AdBlue bottle also does not have an expiry date printed (there is a spot for expiry date on the label, but the expiry date is not printed). If this was critical and expired product would permanently ruin your exhaust system I suspect manufacturers would ensure the expiry date is printed. In theory the life of the DEF is determined by storage temperature. According to ISO 22241 standard, average storage temp: <10C = minimum 36month shelf life <25C = minimum 18mo <30C = minimum 12mo <35C = minimum 6mo Plus, notice the standard does not say expiry date, but rather minimum shelf life. So if you stored it at <25C does that mean your product is expired after 18mo? No, not really, all you know is that it is good for at least 18mo. How much longer than 18mo is your product good for? Your guess is probably as good as anyone elses.

Q: What's the shelf life of DEF fluid? Can I store DEF fluid for 5 years without compromising the product's efficacy?

2 Answers
  • A: Not likely. ISO 22241 standard says that the product shelf life is determined by average storage temp: <10C = minimum 36 months shelf life <25C= min 18mo <30C= min 12mo <35C= min 6mo This is not expiry, but minimum shelf life. So the DEF will be good for more than the minimum, but 5yrs may be pushing it. This is not gold, don't hoard it. Buy what you can use within a reasonable amount of time.

Q: Can this be used in a Mercedes Benz 2010 Sprinter?

1 Answer
  • A: If your 2010 Sprinter is a diesel then you will most likely need a DEF, in which case, this product would be a fantastic choice. Please consult your owners manual to confirm.
