Gibson - Poor Install Tolerances

The specification and install images show the controls very close to the escutcheon plate. It's a nice look and why it was selected. The way this was installed, there is a huge gap between the controls and escutcheon plate. According to Moen, this is perfectly acceptable. It looks unfinished and like a mistake. Very disappointing.
No, I do not recommend this product.

Hello MPLS22 and thank you for the feedback you posted on the Moen website. The Moen T2901 Gibson Posi-Temp Valve-only trim when installed has a gap between the handle and the escutcheon plate to ensure the screws on the plate do not interfere with the operation of the handle. Depending on the installation, it is acceptable for this gap to be between ½” – 1”. Many times, this gap is defined by the amount of room behind the shower wall the installer has for installing the valve. Moen does offer an Escutcheon Extension Ring that will work with a 7” round escutcheon plate, part number 162. The Escutcheon Extension Ring will push the currently installed escutcheon plate forward ½”. We see that you have already worked with our product specialists and we thank you for choosing Moen products.

Looks nice

Moen is the only brand I will buy. They have earned my trust and business over the years. I removed 22 year old trim from the bathrooms to modernize the appearance. I was totally impressed with how well the old trim still looked. I'm sure I will be just as pleased with the replacement trim.

Made changes in our master bath. Went from chrome to matte black fixtures and am really satisfied. Installed myself and this shower valve trim looks great.
