  • A: I called Minn kota and they suggested Group 27 with at least 127 amp.

Q: Do I need a mount to use it on my inflatable boat?

4 Answers
  • A: This motor is designed to mount over the top of a vertical surface such as the typical flat stern of a row boat. If your inflatable boat is designed to take a motor it will have a transom mount at the stern. If you have simply an inflated part of the boat hull at the back you would have to construct something suitable. The motor is comparatively powerful so it would have to be something sturdy.

Q: Can this motor be used in saltwater? Is this motor appropriate for a Seahawk 4 inflatable, if so, I would like to use it in both saltwater and fresh water. Can this motor work in both fresh and salt water?

4 Answers
  • A: Absolutely. I have used it on a bigger inflatable boat (see my review VJVIS) with great results. I do believe you can use it in both fresh and salt water. You need to be more concerned about the deep cycle battery that you use. Make sure that you can use the battery in both waters.

Q: Do this fit a peddle boat

  • A: Yes, I have a Contour paddle boat and it fits right on the moulded- in transom. On other boats you can make a transom from 2x4s and bolt it on. Lots of youtube videos for this.

Q: Which batteries are suited to this motor? Can I attach any marine battery that CT stocks? Which ones are recommended? Do marine batteries have built in protection against short circuit? Thanks

3 Answers
  • A: Use the ones that say deep cycle on it. Depending on your usage level get the right Amphr rated battery. For longer usage get higher Amphr. They don't have built in protection against short circuit. You will have to buy a small accessory for that. It is mentioned in the battery information sheet.

Q: How would this mount to your average canoe? IE: Pelican Ram-X.

3 Answers
  • A: These motors will turn 360 degrees unlike an outboard. If you have regular canoe just put a piece of 3/4 inch plywood on either side and tighten the bolts. I have had my Ram X 15 foot for 14 years and have never had an issue with this method.

Q: trolling motor 79 8580-4 what dose this comepair 2 re horse power loke 2 4 7 etc? thanks wayne

  • A: Someone said in a previous question that 1amp is close to 1lb of thust, if that is true then 1hp is 746 watts so (12v x 55A) /746 = about 0.9hp with a 55lb thust motor

  • A: Yes works really well on my 14ft tin boat… I’ve used it as my main motor before is lakes that don’t allow gasoline engines don’t think it will have a problem on a 18ft
