Questions
Q: Asking this again as itvwasn't properly answered before: Are these vacuums DOP or aerosol tested to ensure no asbestos leakage when in use? I understand the filter is HEPA, but what grade, and what about leakage past any connections, etc.
2 years agoA: I questioned Canadian Tire regarding Asbestos remediation. They have since changed the product description to remove this claim. This vacuum is a rebranded Vacmaster VK811PH. Vacmaster no longer makes claim of Asbestos removal safe. To be honest I was looking at this vacuum years ago and I swear I remember Vacmaster's website making the Asbestos safe removal claim as well. Specification for this vacuum keep changing. Before it was 125 CFM and is now 88 CFM. While I am not vacuuming Asbestos, it is an added assurance that the vacuum is filtering at a high rate that I was interested in. I am questioning the claims of any of these specs now as they continuously keep changing. I do not feel comfortable with quality of this product. I reached out to Vacmaster several times and never received a reply. Buyer Beware. This is definitely not an H-Class vacuum that is typically required for real Hazardous material removal.

Q: All other shop vac’s list the horse power such as “6.5”. This one lists amps. Is there a HP rating for this unit? I want to replace my 6.5hp wet dry for my wood shop. Thanks.
2 years agoA: At least one review for the same vacuum sold under a different brand name says it's 1.23 HP. To calculate electric motor HP the equation is volts x amps x efficiency / 756. Assuming it were 100% efficient (it's not) it would be 120Vx11Ax1.0/756=1.74 HP. So a 1.23 HP rating would make sense as the actual efficiency will be a bit lower.

Q: It says this vacuum is Designed for Asbestos remediation. Is this true ? As I have some tile debris to vacuum that contains asbestos.
3 years agoA: No, This Vacuum is NOT compliant for Asbestos remediation. Asbestos requires an H-Class Vacuum system that is tested sealed and has a plastic bagging system around the containment bag. I wrote Canadian Tire and they seem to have corrected their product description.

Q: What is the total height of the maximum 8-gallon hepa vac assembled outside of packaging. Does the cannister need to be attached to the wheels? I need a clearance of 21 inches in a crawl space I nee to vaccum.
3 years agoA: The total height is 27" from the floor to the top of the handle. The wheels are approx. 2 1/4".

Q: Can I use this to vacuum up cold ashes from a wood stove?
2 years agoA: Do not vacuum washed from a wood stove unless you can be absolutely sure no embers are remaining as they could re ignite inside your vacuum. I haven’t used this shop vac for ashes specifically, but I bet it would do a great job cleaning out the inside of a stove. This shop vac is like any other shop vac but has better filters so the air leaving the vacuum contains minimal dust. Traditional shop vacs are cheaper and kick up more dust.

3 years agoA: These Vacums are HEPA certified and that means they’re made to clean up any Asbestos. When I had to clean up contaminated Insulation shop Vav HEPA certified it had to be.
