Good quality, not worth the price due to the missing lifetime warranty on the torque wrench

This is a good kit and the tools are well made but the major negative point is that the torque wrench does not offer the "lifetime" guarantee that most MAXIMIM product have - or should have. I do like having a case to keep the torque wrench safe and all of the included bits together. BUT.... There's no reason to pay almost double for a MAXIMUM product if the warranty is the same as cheaper products.

Questions

Q: Is the included sockets safe to use in a 1/2 impact wrench to loosen the lug nuts?

  • A: These sockets are not impact rated, you can search for 'impact sockets' on CT website to see find sets/individual sockets

Q: how can I use the torque wrench for setting at 89 ft lbs?

3 Answers
  • A: You are probably looking to set it for an exact 120Nm, like I need. However, you can set it to either 88ft-lbs, as I decided to do and had no problems for the past 5 years, the difference is less than a Nm. You can also set it to 90 ft-lbs to tighten up a little over, but either way is insignificant especially for wheel bolts. You'll be ok either way. I'd be more concerned with recalibrating the wrench periodically.

Q: Do you use this to remove the nuts of the wheel or just for torque?

  • A: I got this questions from a few friends actually, who I'm glad they didn't borrow my tools. I mean you do have a breaker bar in the kit for exactly that reason, to loosen the bolts. Why would you be so blunt and ruin an expensive torque wrench, I really don't get it?!?

Q: I was always been told to reset tension to 0 before storage, but manual says to let it at 50lbs for the 1/2 drive. Which is right?

2 Answers
  • A: You can set it at 50 to 80. The best practice recommendation for all torque wrenches is to keep a little tension on, up to 20% of the range. So this torque wrench has a range of 50-250 which is a total range of 200. 20% of 200 is 40, so you should leave it anywhere between 50-90. When you set it all the way back, there is a great chance of messing up the calibration.

Q: What is the actual length of the torque wrench in this kit? In one of the shown pictures of the kit, the torque wrench looks much shorter than the 24" breaker bar, but in another picture showing both items in the case, they look like close in length.

  • A: No, it just includes the mentioned six different size deep sockets: deep sockets (17 mm, 19 mm, 21 mm, 3/4", 13/16", and 7/8")

  • A: There is a screwed in cap on the bottom of the handle, but otherwise there are no caps. I hope that helps

Q: product information. says deep IMPACT sockets ? These look like deep (regular) chrome sockets. Impact sockets are NOT chrome. Description on website is WRONG. Thanks

  • A: toolgirlcalagry, You are RIGHT! These are not impact sockets. I have this set, and they are just normal sockets. Canadian Tire should correct the description on the web site.
