Danger

Proper use, how to use torque sticks!

If your wheel requires 150 ft lbs. use the 140lb torque stick. if it's 100 ft lbs. use the 90 ft lb torque stick to get it close, then use a calibrated torque wrench to finish to the proper torque. They save time and are very handy but not ment to use as a final torque as they are not accurate because everyones impact has different specs. Over tightening or uneven torque on wheels can warp your rotors. and always recheck wheel torque after driving 50-100 kms.

  • A: Il ne serrera qu'au couple souhaité. Assurez-vous que l'élément de fixation ne peut plus être tourné avec l'extension attachée.

Q: What is the drive/torque/nut size of each bar? Eg. 1/2" drive / 100ft lb / 19mm ?

3 Answers
  • A: The sticks are 1/2 inch mate to 1/2 inch female and act like an extension to your ratchet.   The sockets are not built into the sticks so you will need 1/2 inch drive sockets appropriately sized for your needs.

  • A: no, torque sticks are designed to only got 60% of the way, so you really should only get a click wrench to tighten the the last 40%, better off don't waste your $

Q: Have these tools been tested for accuracy against a professional torque wrench? for my usage i would need for the tools to be precise.

2 Answers
  • A: I wouldn't count on getting precise accuracy from these torque sticks. The outside of the package says to set pneumatic impact wrench to 90 psi but not all impact wrenches will put out the same impact at 90 psi. There are no instructions included in the package so I searched on-line for instructions on how to properly use them and to ensure you get consistent accuracy. There are at least 101 different and often conflicting recommendations as to how to properly use them. I actually have a DeWALT battery power impact wrench and I put it on the medium setting which is supposed to put out 300 ft-lb. After using the 140 ft-lb torque stick I tested it with a recently calibrated torque box style torque wrench and the lug nut turned at about 94 ft-lbs. Maybe it would have worked better if I used the full power setting (700 ft-lbs) on my impact wrench. From reading up on an industry profession publication a lower rated torque stick should only be used to prevent over tightening then use a regular torque wrench to torque the nuts.

Q: Use with electric impact wrench Can these be used with electric impact wrenches or only air wrenches. I've read some are not recommended for elective impact wrenches because of higher blows per minute leading to over torqueing???

2 Answers
  • A: Information elsewhere on the web advises that they only be used with air powered impact wrenches, for which they are designed. The beats per minute of electric wrenches are higher and can cause over tightening.

Q: What is the torque specs of the impact wrench that will produce the desired accuracy of the torque sticks?

1 Answer
  • A: These torque sticks offers a wide range of torque settings from 65-150 ft.lb (65, 75, 80, 90, 100, 110, 120, 130, 140, 150ft-lbs) Any torque/impact wrench that is able to meet the above torques will do.
