  • A: I'm in the trades, to all like pastysim. In my very young days, I burned-out a couple smaller 3/8"-chuck drills using big bits like these. The 1/2" will fit a 3/8"-chuck drill but don't do it. The two larger bits require a 1/2" chuck. Forget any adaptors, you'll destroy your drill. These are big heavy-duty bits for boring big deep holes. That requires power (higher Amperage, 6-10amp), a 1/2" chuck, and 850rmp or slower. It also requires control over the drill as they can buck a bit, so side-handles are a must. The friction & heat build-up of boring these large deep holes is a real issue, so care is required along with the proper equipment. If you're just planning on doing 1-2 raised beds with ties, you can buy the bits & rent a proper drill.

Q: what drill do they fit on i have the ryobi impact

  • A: 8 yr-old question, but I'll respond for more recent prospective buyers. I work in the trades. First, they are very long, heavy-duty drill bits. Auger Bits create an uncommon amount of heat & friction in use unless the hole is 2" deep or less. Then, why use such a long, unwieldy bit? To use the set, you must have a 1/2" chuck drill. The 1/2" bit can be used in a 3/8" chuck, but I don't recommend it as most 3/8" chucked drills are not built to drill deep holes with any auger-bit. Even moderate holes with moderately-large spade bits can challenge 3/8" chucked drills. They were never built for any job needing these bits. And to use the 3/4" or 1" bits, a 6amp-9amp 1/2" drill at slower speeds, say less than 850 RPM should be your tool of choice. Even with 1/2" augers, use slower speeds. Again, these are 18" bits, designed to help users through timbers, railroad & landscaping ties. These are big tasks, big, deep holes and create super-heated friction. You need to use a strong drill, or burn out a few smaller, lighter-duty, smaller drills...and you will. I do believe all retailers & manufacturers should include such cautions in their product descriptions.

  • A: Confirmed that 054-4246 can not use to drill anchor holes, which only for drilling on wood, not for masonry material.
