Satisfait, pour avoir essayer autres similaire (tormek) je suis agréablement surpris du produit. On peut l'utiliser des 2 cotés puisque la rotation du moteur est réversible avec l'interrupteur. Meule de pierre évidement à ce prix. On dit que les accessoires Tormek sont compatibles, reste à vérifier. Suis luthier amateur et j'ai besoin d'outils bien affutés.

I've been sharpening on whetstones for decades, and finally decided to take the plunge. I purchased this marvellous wet sharpening wheel and it exceeded my expectations. I can achieve a professional edge in mere minutes compared to what would take considerable longer on a series of expensive stones.

Not worth the money

Missing the proper holder for longer items such as knives and blades that are longer than 4 inches, great for chisels but that’s it. Cheaper to get a bench grinder with a sharpening wheel.

Q: MAXIMUM 1.6A Tool Sharpener, the speed says 0-3590. So how do I control the speed so I can set 500 rpm. 3590 is too fast for some blade sharpening. Thanks

A: The motor may operate at 3590 rpm, but using a worm-drive or step-down gear assemble in the device, the sharpening stone and stropping wheel spin at lower rpm. Most manufacturers operate between 80-120 rpm for best performance and life of the stone.

Q: "Motor speed is 1725RPM, the disc (grinding wheel) speed is 115RPM" Does this mean that the grinding wheel side is fixed at 115 RPM, but the other side could be fitted with an 8in wheel that would go 1725rpm?

A: There is a geared reduction system between the motor running at 1725 RPM. and both wheels which turn at 115 RPM, so both wheels are run at the same speed. G

Q: Are there any accessories available for this machine, i.e. sharpening lathe tools? I can see using it for chisels, but I’d like to sharpen my bowl gouges as well.

A: Not from Canadian Tire, but the Tormek jig do fit and are excellent quality and work great, but do cost a little more than others, but they are worth the extra cost.

Q: Does this sharpener spin in two directions (via rocker switch), or just one? It's difficult to tell from the photos and the description doesn't specify.

A: Yes, the machine can rotate in two directions. Click the switch down, the wheels are rotating in the direction of the operator, click up, is against the operator . The directional label is posted next to the switch in the machine.

A: I don’t know the number off hand but I’m sure there is a parts break down somewhere in the manual. Having said that I wouldn’t doubt if the tormek stones fit, as long as the arbour is the same size

Q: What is the difference between this model and the pro version? Is it simply the ability to reverse direction? Is this a helical drive reduction system or a simple friction drive from the motor shaft?
