Because I'd never used/owned a staple gun before, I called Canadian Tire before purchasing. I described the single job I needed for the staple gun, & was advised this was the staple gun that would do the job. It was recommended that I purchase 1/4" staples to go with the gun (was a little surprised that the gun didn't come with a box of staples). The 1/4" staples didn't Quite do the job; I needed something longer. I don't know whether larger staples will fit this Mastercraft Light-Duty Staple Gun, but since purchasing this gun I purchased some of that incredibly sticky tape of the kind one sees advertised on TV, so I'll use the tape if larger/longer staples don't fit this product. I will NOT be purchasing the Heavy Duty Staple Gun for my single project; I hope I can use this for another project sometime, so it doesn't go to waste. (Wish I'd purchased/tried the super sticky tape BEFORE I purchased this gun.)

A: My guess is that you've bought JT21 staples which are 3/8" long, these don't fit it the stapler. You need 1/4in long ones. If not, here's how you normally refill the stapler: -On the rear, there's a chromed part you can push, once you push it, lower it and it will pop out. Refill the stapler of push it back.

Q: Sorry what I ment was when you first take the gun out of the package there is this black wire that is under the handle goes down and wraps around a screw preventing you from pushing down the handle, how do I remove that?

A: If you are referring to the part shown in the attached image, that is part of the stapler and should not be removed. It acts as a spring to push the handle back up to the original position after it's been pressed down by the user. If it is removed, the product won't function. If you can't press down the handle, it might be a defective unit and should be returned for a replacement.

Q: How do you take the safety lock off so the handle will go down?

A: This model has a basic safety handle lock. The ring at the back of the stapler (see image) can be swung up over the back of the handle to hold it down when not in use. There is no other safety lock mechanism if the above isn't in use. If you can't press down, check for a staple jam and make sure it's clear. If it is, make sure you're using the right sized staples (JT-21 equivalent in 1/4"-5/16" sizes). If those don't solve the issue, it may be a defective unit and should be returned for a replacement.

A: You need to pull out the pusher/spring at the bottom right of the stapler. Then load the JT-21 or equivalent staples in the chamber. Lastly, slide the pusher/spring back in over the staples. See attached image.

Q: I bought this and just noticed it doesn't have any staples inside. There is an empty spot in the packaging that could have fit them. Shouldn't it come with staples? Or do you have to purchase them separately?

A: It depends on what kind of wood. A light duty stapler could have trouble getting into MDF, but wouldn’t have trouble with most natural woods. If you are questioning if a light duty stapler will be enough for a job, you'd be better off going with a heavy duty model. I would suggest 57-7937.

A: We did change this product from a stapler/staple gun into just a staple gun, so our newer models do not interchange. If you purchased this product during the transition period, you may have received a new product in old packaging, and if that is the case please accept our apology. If your unit will convert, please call our Customer Relations Department to obtain a copy of the conversion instructions.
