These are great totes. We use this size for our pet food and bird seed. So far, it has foiled both birds and cats as neither has been able to penetrate the defenses of this tote. There are many other uses: you could stack a bunch of them and create a tote-em-pole, or you could create an emergency kit for your automobile.

Q: What is the likelihood of these cracking in freezing temperatures (e.g. stored in shed, garage). Would Rubbermaid be more practical in this respect?

A: This tote isn't too bad, but the Rubbermaid are MUCH better at lower temperatures. These ones are more likely to shatter at low temperatures.
