    Flaming dumpster fire

Impressively bad. It's truly shocking that this made it onto store shelves. Not worth even clearance price. I bought this to enlarge the hole in a metal-skinned entry door, which the description says it will do. Let me list the problems: - Not width adjustable. Works on 1¾ doors, won't go any thicker, will work on 1⅜ doors but will be *very* loose. - You can secure the jig to the door edge with screws, but the 'wings' with the large holes IS NOT ATTACHED to the secured part. Just a light tension fit. THEY WILL MOVE. - There's an imprint to show if you've selected the 2⅜ or 2¾ backset, but on the larger setting the imprint is partially buried behind the plastic. I had to confirm with calipers. - The mandrel only fits the larger hole saw. Instruction just say "Replace the large holes saw with the small hole saw". This is impossible. Unbelievable. - The packaging is awful. I have no idea why companies think we want sealed plastic clamshells we have to dangerously cut open. Grow up. If you absolutely must try this, here are some tips: - Use C-clamps & C-clamps to hold the wings in place. Both pressing on the wings, and above and below the wings to block any movement. Mine *still* jumped and roughed up the door. Or, if your lock is large enough to cover it, drill holes in the plastic and use screws. - Tighten the mandrel to the hole saw with wrench / channel locks / vice / whatever so it won't unscrew. Then gently run the drill *backwards*. Be patient. This will prevent the saw jumping. Oil might help (I didn't). - Once through the metal skin, switch to forward to drill through the wood core. Since the hole saw was now held in place by in its own 'tunnel', I had no problem getting through the opposite side metal skin on forward. If you still need to drill the 1" hole, I have no idea. Luckily I didn't.

No, I do not recommend this product.

    Door Hole Installation Kit

Kit is good but to secure the template to the door front drilling a couple pilot holes and securing the the template to the door with two screws worked perfectly. Could be an engineering improvement to the set. Otherwise the template comes apart while drilling.

    don't waste you're money

even on clearance it was not worth the 12 bucks. I thought it would be nice that it was adjustable depths, but the guides would not stay in place and the drill would kick them out.

Q: How do you get the guide bit out of the holesaw after drilling a hole? It's on there so tight there's no way I can get it off, have tried everything. Do you have a suggestion?

    • A: To separate the pilot drill from the holesaw, you have to loosen and remove the nut located on the back base of the holesaw, then pull the pilot drill from the other side (follow steps 1 to 6 on the attached document). If the difficulty is caused by the wood plug, you can either use your drill to remove the plug or push the wood plug out through the side holes, then proceed with loosening the nut.

Q: the mandrel will not screw into the 1 inch hole saw , how come?

    1 Answer
    • A: There is an adapter on the mandrel. It should unscrew, then should fit. Guessing that is your issue. Good luck

Q: Is this good for wood doors? I bought this without noticing that it's for metal doors. A reviewer indicated that it can be used for wood doors too. Does it do a reasonably clean cut in a wood door or should I exchange it?

    1 Answer
    • A: This is a bi metal hole saw so it is safe to use on wood and metal. I suggest not drilling too fast when drilling wood; sometimes a fast drill can burn the wood.
