Inexpensive beginner setup. Good value for money.

I purchased this kit a few years ago and have used it regularly for miniature painting/other hobby jobs. The included airbrush is a dual action, .5mm needle with minor adjustability. The included cups will cause you to waste a bit of paint as the brush is bottom feed and the inlets for paint do not go low enough for air pressure to achieve suction without significant tilting of the brush as you paint. It can be a bit awkward when you get low in the cups. The brush is okay for broad painting but do not expect to achieve any form of fine detail. the trigger is not smooth as you will feel bumping and hiccups from the internal mechanism but it is usable. Consider it a beginner brush that can teach the basics and mechanical knowledge to new artists but expect to upgrade to something even moderately better very shortly after purchase. The air compressor is also beginner friendly. It includes a water trap and stays a near constant 30 psi while painting which is very usable for airbrushing. It does not include a regulator or any way for you to manage the pressure going to the airbrush. The compressor is fully on once the trigger is pulled. The compressor gets very hot after about 20-30min. You will notice water accumulation and spitting after half an hour has passed. adding a second water trap to the bottom of the airbrush can help but its better to space out usage and give it a rest every 30 min or so. It is relatively quiet at 65db around 3ft from the motor. I sit the compressor under my desk and the noise does not travel to the other rooms, but I must mention I do have carpeting to somewhat dampen the vibration. The included cable is very decent. It's braided and a nice shiny blue colour. Its around 4' long and is the perfect length for moving around larger objects or hiding the compressor under your desk. The cable is compatible with other manufacturers so upgrading is easy at both ends of the system. In conclusion this setup includes everything needed for people at the very beginning stages of learning to airbrush. Expect to upgrade the brush shortly after purchase, followed by the compressor when the need for extended periods (more than 30 minutes) of painting become necessary. Considering the Price for a premium branded beginner compressor is usually $200 plus, this is a cost effective setup for new artists.

    Yes, I recommend this product.

    Questions

Q: Can I use this to blow dust out of my computer? Tired of buying cans of compressed air.

    3 Answers
    • A: I would not suggest it. Sometimes you can get humidity in compressors, most have drainage valves. Even a little humidity while the computer is unplugged can cause a short. I would recommend an electric fan based duster but if you want to use a compressor than you should also invest in a inline humidity filter.

Q: Does this have an auto-off feature?

    3 Answers
    • A: When you turn on the air compressor, the motor starts running and the pressure inside the tank starts increasing. The pressure switch, responsible for monitoring the pressure inside the tank automatically turns off the motor when the pressure reaches 58-60psi.

Q: Can I use automotive paint or is this only good for water based paints

    3 Answers
    • A: Well, paint is paint....but...no matter what base, you'll need to dilute it with the appropriate thinner, and that will take some trial and error. You'll want to apply multiple very thin coats and build up to the intensity you want. CLEAN UP the airbrush immediately. This is a low-end compressor and low end airbrush, but the pricing was also low end, Hope this helped.

Q: Can you use other needle tips in the pen to make the flow tighter

    2 Answers
    • A: Hello. Generally a 0.2mm tip is used for fine work. There is little overspray and more control. But the trick is you need to thin out the paints for these tips, otherwise they will clog! 70/30 paint to thinner is common. A 0.3 tip is used for general work such as base coats, details, and fine lines. And a 0.5 tip is used for wider coverage with thicker .paints. Using a flow improver works for all the above. Just a few drops in your paint mix will go a long way to stop clogging. D

Q: What is the working pressure? Bought one, but returned it because the regulator would not go above 11-12psi.

    • A: Hi there, thanks for reaching out! The maximum pressure is 58PSI. Please make sure the brush, hose and air compressor are connected correctly without any air leakage.
