I do find this tool a bit heavy to handle for what I wanted it for. But it does work, very powerful, good little tool

      long term test

I haven't had very good luck with the Mastercraft rotary tools. I've owned a few over the years. Keep in mind that it's not how long you own the tool, it's how much use it gets that determines it's build quality. Even though I've had my current tool for a few years it's only had, maybe between 4 and 8 hours of actual use and seldom at high speed. The switch sometimes doesn't work. I have to switch it on and off and back on several times to get it to actually turn on. The speed control seldome works properly. I may get full speed at a mid setting or low speed at a high setting. And there's a bearing going or a bearing race because it will vibrate like a sand compactor when it actually turns on. Sometimes it will smooth out and usually it'll just feel like it's trying to self destruct. To be fair though, I haven't had much luck with Dremel either. The good thing, if you can call it that, with the Mastercraft unit is that it fails in stages. The Dremel units I've had just died, no warning. This unit will at least allow you to finish your job before calling it quits. For that reason I would recomend it with the caveat that you should wait till it goes on sale. Maybe Mastercraft has fixed all the issues over the past few years, I can't say. But a review after using the tool once isn't really much good and it takes a few years to really put some time on these things. Hope this helps. Incidentally, Canadian Tire has the best return/warranty policy going. If you buy one and it dies, you will not be left in the cold.

      Yes, I recommend this product.

Q: Will this work as a drywall router?

      • A: Not for very long I'm afraid. It can be done if you're just cutting out a few holes, but if you're looking to build and sheet an entire house, for example, then I'd sugest you get the actual tool for that job. The bearings in an actual drywall router are far bigger than what's in a rotary tool and are built to take the side load that is inherent in that application. Rotary tool bearings are not built for that.
