Great kitchen accessory

This is a great addition for any kitchen. In fact, I keep a spare one on hand just to be sure I always have one. Has Fahrenheit or Celsius option and fits nicely in kitchen utensil drawer.

Works reasonably well and is fairly quick to get a reading. Probe is easy to clean. Battery is easy to change out. So many brands are unreliable for this stuff now - this one can't be calibrated and uses an obscure size of button cell, so points off there, but for under $20 is also not too dear.

A: It seems to measure anything we stick it into, quite accurately, including melted chocolate, body temperature, freezer, refrigerator, room air temperature and any liquid we use. So, if you keep the probe clean, you should be able to measure anything you need to.

A: This thermometer can be used for soap making but it is intended to register the internal temperature of foods and liquids. It's best to use a thermometer dedicated solely to soap making to prevent cross-contamination and ensure kitchen safety. Once a thermometer has been used with lye, it should never be used for food again, as lye is highly caustic and even trace amounts can be hazardous if ingested. Thank you.

A: This thermometer is not recommended for hot liquids like oil or candy. The stem not being long enough would melt the plastic. The suggested liquid to measure with this thermometer would be the likes of soups and jellos. I would recommend the Stainless Steel Paddle Style Deep Fry & Candy Thermometer for your usage.

A: Hi Joe, To replace the battery: 1. Use a coin to open the round battery cover and turn in the direction according to arrow. 2. Replace battery (G13 cell battery) by placing + side facing up (towards battery cover). Thanks for the question! I hope these steps help

A: There is no way to calibrate this thermometer. However, you can reset the thermometer by removing the battery from the unit and pressing any button 20X. Place the battery back in the unit.
