Works well with some caveats

It works well grinding both rock salt and pepper corns. Doesn't leave residue, which is what I was concerned about as it doesn't have a base to rest on. It does require more pressure to squeeze the buttons than I had hoped for as I bought it for some relief for my husband's arthritic hands. It requires two hands to operate (one to hold, one to press the buttons.)
