    • A: No, definately don't try it. There is a lot of heat from your engine nearby and the product can easily be set on fire being epoxy based.

Q: My double bottom stainlrss steel s aucepan got overheated and the outer layer of the bottom fell off. Is this suitable for reattaching it? The inner layer is totally intact so no risk of food contact. Both parts are stainless steel, not copper.

    1 Answer
    • A: No epoxy should be used for this since direct contact with the heat source it will cause off-gassing and bond loss. Best to have it tack TIG welded.

Q: Would this work as a metal to metal adhesive, the application being adhering 2 inch steel strips to a fireplace trim thank you

    1 Answer
    • A: No this has no structural properties. It is design more of a crack or hole filler. As long as the temps are no higher than 500F, consider an adhesive silicone. Do not use an engine gasket making silicone. We have a black version as part# 31319

Q: Can we use this product to seal the joint on a catalytic converter? Will it withstand the pressure and heat?

    1 Answer
    • A: The J-B Weld High-Heat Epoxy Putty Stick has a max temp of 450F, and approx. 300psi of pressure. This product is not recommended for this application. We would recommend the the J-B Weld Extreme Heat Paste (SKU# 038-3826) which provides superior heat resistance up to 2400F.

Q: I am wondering if this high heat epoxy would be able to fix the hard plastic handles of my pots, and lids, that are broken, especially around the screw holes. And will it ensure strength and stability?

    1 Answer
    • A: If you want a knead together stick type product, the High Heat # 8297 will work for that. If the "red" color is not appealing consider our original #8267 SteelStik which is grey in color. I like the Clearweld # 50112 syringe myself. It will handle 300F which should cover your applications since I don't believe the handles get quite that hot. It really looks much better than the others for sure.

Q: I have an old cook stove at camp, starting to crack. Would this product take the heat from a wood stove ? The fire box is lined with fire brick, just the metal wrapping around the out side has holes.

    1 Answer
    • A: If the holes are even with, or below the fire line there should be no problem since it is brick lined. We would caution about using above the flame height because of the higher heat that it produces. Please make sure to sand the steel to remove any rust and dirt and provide an area for good adhesion.
