I’ll admit that the reviews of this product had me apprehensive. I was in need of a chimney cap after having a family of raccoons evicted from my chimney. The price on this was right, but I was worried about the low reviews. I decided to go for it. The cap does not come pre-assembled. That being said, it’s not complicated. If you have ever put together furniture and made it through those instructions, then you can assemble this. All I can say is take your time with it. My chimney required an 8.5 inch cap all around, and this was certainly adjustable to that size. The bolts included do look more like screws, however they do not actually pierce the surface of the chimney. They are pressure mounted. Once the cap was in place, I slowly tightened each corner (my chimney is rounded at the corners), which then tightened the clamps on the inside. A week after I installed it, the cap survived two bad weather storms of rain and wind without budging. For those reviews that said it blew off, I can only think it wasn’t assembled correctly or wasn’t secured tight enough. The wire mesh included can be wrapped around the unit and included is enough metal wire to tie the mesh ends afterwards. I just happened to have more metal wire from another project that I used to secure the mesh to the unit on all sides. Nothing is getting in now. Definitely happy with this cap.

Simple unit to assemble. Eliminated the bottom brackets and mounted to the chimney cap. ( this chimney had no flu extending past the cap )

A good quality product great that it can fit different chimney sizes fit my 8 inch round chimney no problem. Simple to put together. Just be careful with installing the mesh. We’ll see how durable it is.
