Mowing is an effective way to promote growth and keep your lawn looking great. It is important, though, to make sure you are mowing properly, as it can either help or hurt your lawn depending on how it is done. Many problems with lawns are caused, by poor mowing practices for example, mowing too short, mowing with dull blades, mowing infrequently, or cutting too much at once. For the best mowing results users should try the following suggestions. (1) Set your mower at the highest preferred setting and only cut the top 1/3 of the grass blades at any one time, even if this means you must mow again after several days. (2) Mow when the grass is dry. (3) Vary your mowing pattern. (4) Mow as often as needed for your grass type, growing conditions, growth pattern, and season. (5) Consider mulching. To mulch, remove the bag and insert the mulch plug into the rear of the unit. This will leave the clippings on the lawn allowing the nutrients and nitrogen contained within them to return to the soil and allow the remaining grass to recycle them (always discharge the mulch towards a previously cut area to prevent your mower from bogging down). (6) For the cleanest cut, sharpen mower blades at the first sign of wear. Dull blades tear up grass, causing ragged, brown edges.
