Better no smoke detector than this junk.

Piece of junk. I've had it less then a year. It just keeps beeping. I've tried to blow into the detector, let it sit in the sun for a few hrs, but it just keeps beeping.

No, I do not recommend this product.

After about 8 years of using six-months at a time (summer cottage, where the battery is removed all winter), the false alarms are mind-numbing.

Great how it works

I had these same ones in my townhouse which I moved out of, it works perfectly fine but it would start to make a code 1 tone for no reason, and then I had to take the sucker down and take out the battery and I would also have to put it in the closet for a few days then put the battery back in then put it back up.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Go to www.kiddecanada.com then Residential & Commercial => Smoke Alarms => Photoelectric. the manual is there in both languages. Q: How can we get this alarm to quit chirping? Have replaced batteries etc.??? Purchased this alarm not even 12 months ago and have been replacing the 9V batteries or leaving it down as it wants to "chirp" frequently!! Very annoying and frustrating.

  • A: NOTE: Several things could be causing your alarm(s) to alarm briefly or Chirp randomly without a regular pattern. Verify how your alarm is chirping or sounding by referring to the following: • Consistently at regular time intervals • Low Battery Condition – The alarm will "chirp" every 30-40 seconds (some alarms every 60 seconds) for a minimum of seven days. Replace the battery when this occurs, then test your alarm. • Alarm Malfunction – The alarm will "chirp" between flashes of the Red LED. If this occurs, press and hold the Test button for a minimum of two seconds. If the alarm does not sound your unit has a defective battery or other failure. • Hush Condition – If your alarm has the Hush feature, the alarm will "chirp" every 30-40 seconds for approximately seven minutes while the Hush feature is activated. • End of Life Condition (Sealed Battery Models Only) – The alarm will "chirp" every 30 seconds to indicate it is time to replace the alarm. • Randomly without a regular pattern (continue with article) If your alarm is chirping or sounding randomly, change the battery to see if it fixes the problem. If the random chirping continues, refer to the following steps for possible causes and solutions to the problem: ________________________________________ Loose, or Improperly Installed Battery Refer to the following checklist and determine if one of these conditions might be the cause of your problem: • Verify that a battery of the recommended type is securely installed. • Make sure to use a battery with a use-by date no later than four to five years in the future. • Check that the battery is snapped in completely so it cannot be shaken loose. NOTE: It is possible that battery connections may not be making good contact with the battery. Disconnecting and re-connecting the battery once or twice will likely fix this condition. • On units with a front-load battery, be sure that the battery compartment door is closed completely as well. NOTE: Loose white neutral wire can cause an echoing chirp from one unit to the next. ________________________________________ Smoke Alarm Sensing Chamber May be Dirty NOTE: Dust and insects can collect in the sensing chamber of the alarm. An accumulation of dust in the sensing chamber can cause the unit to chirp. It is good practice to clean the smoke alarm when you change the battery. Static electricity from the ac quick connector attracts dust and can cause false alarms. To clean your smoke alarm, perform the following steps: 1. Remove your alarm from the mounting bracket. 2. Clean the interior of your alarm (sensing chamber) by using compressed air or a vacuum cleaner hose and blowing or vacuuming through the openings around the perimeter of the alarm. 3. Clean the outside of the alarm by wiping it down with a damp cloth. 4. After cleaning, reinstall your alarm, verify the green LED is on and test your alarm by using the Test button. NOTE: If cleaning does not restore the alarm to normal operation, the alarm should be replaced. ________________________________________ Environmental Conditions Refer to the following environmental conditions for possible solutions to an alarm’s random chirping: • Humidity, steam and condensation NOTE: Causes of condensation are: o Extreme temperatures changes. o High ambient humidity. o Unit being installed in an uninsulated electrical box mounted on a ceiling beneath an attic. NOTE: If this condition exists you will want to move the alarm. View the correct alarm placement in your user's manual. • Excess airflow o Check to see if there is a cooling/heating register, a ceiling fan or an open window within 3 feet of the alarm. If there is, move the alarm away from the source of the increased airflow. NOTE: View the correct alarm placement in your user's manual. For more information on locating your user manual. • Temperature o Check the temperature of the room. Smoke alarms operate at 40 degrees to 95 degrees Fahrenheit. Carbon monoxide alarms operate at 40 degrees to 100 degrees Fahrenheit. ________________________________________ Resetting the Alarm NOTE: Some current model smoke alarms have a processor that retains certain error conditions, such as a weak battery. The error condition should reset when the battery is replaced but sometimes it does not and must be manually reset to clear the error. To reset and alarm, , perform the following steps: 1. Remove the battery. 2. Press and hold the test button for at least 15 seconds. NOTE: The unit may chirp or alarm for a few seconds before going silent. 3. Reinstall the battery. NOTE: The unit will chirp when the battery is first connected but should not chirp afterwards. ________________________________________ Alarm Needs to be Replaced If none of these conditions exist and the suggestions don't alleviate the symptom, the alarm should be replaced. Call Kidde Canada’s technical support line at 1-800-880-6788.
