Bought the fist one. Wouldn’t hold a charge for more then two days , sent it back and the second one is the same way kind of useless on a hunting trip

Doesn’t work as intended

Bought this to communicate with my hunting partner during our recent elk hunt to communicate inreach to inreach. Absolutely didn’t work for us. Sometimes had to wait several hours to receive messages

The inReach Mini uses the Iridium satellite network to send and receive messages, which can sometimes result in delays (especially in areas with heavy tree cover, deep canyons, or limited sky view). Unlike walkie-talkies or direct radio communication, inReach-to-inReach messaging still relies on satellites, and both devices need a clear line of sight to the sky to send/receive effectively. That said, you shouldn't be experiencing delays of several hours in most conditions. We’d love the chance to troubleshoot this with you or make things right. Doesn't Work 100% of the Time

I have been using the inReach Mini in Alaska for the last three years. I have found that it hasn't been 100% reliable. I used it for two hunting trips to Adak and most of the messages I sent to the guys I hunted with were never received.

Q: Just purchased an in reach mini and my box says for iPhone, iPad or iPod? I have another type of phone and it never had option of picking phone type? How do you charge it? Do I need a Garmin adapter or can I use anything that has a USB plug to wall

A: Hello Kimmer. The Inreach Mini is compatible with both IOS and Android devices and you would install the Inreach companion app called Earthmate. The charging adapter is supplied with the unit and is a standard USB-Micro cable. It can also be used as a stand alone unit for communication and SOS if you wished
