These lights are not waterproof, many aren't, however, the metals used to make the bulbs are plated metals that rust. The bulbs fail because of bad connections after one season; because of this type of failure multiple bulbs go out. Environmentally friendly led bulbs? Not when you let corporate morons pimp garbage. The old incandescent screw base bulbs lived on houses all year and lasted a decade. Those were not environmentally friendly...by today's quality standards they were, not because of the power they used, but because they didn't end up in the landfill the next year.
