Loved it until center baffle let go

We are on our second summer with this product and loved it until a few weeks ago when the center chamber divider let go on the inside and it now bulges so much that its hard to sit on or use the motor. We have only used it about 10 times altogether, usually just the two of us. We are highly disappointed that this has happened, especially considering the cost of it. Of course, the warranty is over and we have no options for repair.

No, I do not recommend this product.

I love that the party island has the ability to steer and move around. I have to caution all, that you need to stay near the shore. My friend and I got caught in a current at Cowichan lake. We were able to get to safety by one of us getting out and pulling the island and one of us steering and using the motor. Due to getting onto a person's property encased in logs. We were actually able to drive into the opening, the owners told us to come to the opening. My friend was also holding onto the logs with one hand and dragging it along with the other. The motor helped and the steering knob as well, otherwise we would not have even been able to get into one of the home's properties to safety. Thank goodness there were homes along the way. After that we stayed close to the shore lines, so the current couldn't pick us up again. We thought we were not that far out and close to shore, the first time. Now we realize not to go pass a certain point. We did have our lifejackets on and we were not scared for our life, just didn't want to lose the raft, by having to abandon it, if we felt it was going to drift to the middle of the lake. I know we still had more control since it was motorize. I didn't want to kill the battery trying to get back. I knew it didn't have enough juice, and at the time we were near the properties.Which we knew was our best bet, to get out of there. Since the motor only last 35 minutes, according to the manual with continual use. It turns out the motor boat had trouble in the winds that day as well, the owners said they would come get us in it if they could but they had trouble and said they can't. So the fact that we could at least steer and drive a bit in was good news. Once we stayed close to shore it was a blast, listening to the music, was great fun. Still I have to say it was better having the motor, than not when we needed to get to safety. We always get on near shore as well, since it is hard to get back on once off. My friend didn't even try getting back on. It needs a ladder and more battery time or back up batteries, and a more powerful motor would be nice too. It lacks storage and not as comfortable seating like their other products, this might be for design purposes though. A mesh floor with snaps would be nice too, so you can use the floor or choose to put your feet in. The others on the party island loved that you could dip your feet in.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Design Flaw

Loved this so much but unfortunately it burst :'( We all enjoyed climbing off to go for a swim but getting back on was a challenge for most people. Party island actually sits a fair ways out of the water making it hard to climb back on. So we started coming up the centre hole and would push ourselves through it using our arms and feet. Eventually i guess it was one too many feet and *POP* We replaced this with a different style of party island because we didn't want to deal with the same design flaws.

No, I do not recommend this product.

I really love this product. It can hold up to 4 adults no problem. Probably a lot more children. It's great for just floating around in the water.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Q: Is a boat Operators license required to operate this?

4 Answers
  • A: THE answer is YES. Just FYI, my husband's aluminum boat 9.9 does NOT need to be registered however he needs an operator card. You are confusing 2 different laws. From BoatEXAM site When do I need a Pleasure Craft Operator Card? ALL operators of powered watercraft used for recreational purposes require a Pleasure Craft Operator Card* as of September 15, 2009. There are no exemptions for age, size of boat or engine size. Powered watercraft means any recreational boat, personal watercraft, sailing vessel, or other type of craft fitted with any size motor - including electric trolling motors.

Q: 5 or 6 is the big question The video shows a six person tube, six back rests. The picture shows a five person tube five back rests. Bit of a diffeence don't you think?

  • A: At some point CT must have changed the model from a 6 to 5 person. I owned the 6 person and it looks exactly the same. Perhaps it was too many people for the small motor.

Q: Can the whole thing be inflated by mouth, or do you NEED to use the 12V pump?

  • A: The inflatable part of the Party Island can only be inflated by hand pump or electricity pump. A 12V electricity pump can be used to inflate the inflatable parts.

Q: Is it durable? Could it handle bottoming out, etc? Would it be comfortable for adults? The back support looks low.

2 Answers
  • A: I have only used it 3 times, consecutive days and it seems to be a very durable, quality material. Don't know about bottoming out, but it is very comfy - had 5 adults on it and the back rests are suprisingly comfortable for either sitting or laying back and relaxing.

Q: Is there a pump that comes with this? IF so how long does it take to inflate? If not what did you use to inflate it.

1 Answer
  • A: Yes a pump comes with it, however we use the Coleman portable pumps from Canadian Tire because we don't have a car close by for plugging in the pump that comes with it. When using the pumps, you inflate for 10 minutes at a time and take a twenty minute break. We had a few pumps with us so we continued on, so maybe twenty fives minutes or so. I will know better in the future, if I time it next time. Didn't really time it.

Q: 5 or 6 person? the video demo on the page shows a 6 person inflatable, but the description says 5 person and the picture is different

1 Answer
  • A: Thank you, for your email regarding this consumer inquiry, for use of Inflatable P.F.D.’s in Sub Zero Temperatures. This is an important question, as they are Not For Use In These Temperatures as the C0-2 Gas, can freeze, and becomes Dry Ice. Thus the unit will not inflate. They should use a foam type device if they are using in these temperature conditions.
